Stumble

I am having trouble fixing the stumble that our 83 wagoneer has.

Heres the specs, 360 V-8 with a motorcraft two barrel, auto tranny, electronic distributor. I replaced the accelerator pump, and that didn't fix it, I think that the timing is o.k. but I am not 100% sure. The stumble happens after you start going and about 1/4 throttle. It feels like it looses all power until you pump the pedal and then it goes again.

Anyone have any ideas?

check your vacuum advance on your distributor. make sure the hoses are fresh and make sure the the advance is functional with a vacuum pump.

If it only does it at 1/4 throttle, I'm willing to bet electrical. New cap and rotor, plugs, wires, and check the timing and advance.

the funk in the cap is always the culprit for my zuk.....check that electrical....its probably the easiest part.

it is electronic ignition that doesn't have a vacuum advance, but thanks for the input.

I was also thinking that a vacuum leak was the culprit, but it just doesn't feel like that. I am still going to check everything, but damn there are a TON of vacuum lines under the hood.

I will also check the cap and rotor but it looks new to me!

Pokey, whenever you buy a used rig, you ALWAYS do a full tune up. Cap, plugs, wires and shiny chrome air cleaner. Wires could definitely be the culprit, tha's exaclty what happened with my moms car, she would stop for a stop sign, and it would stumble as soon as she started to go again.

Oh yeah! I forgot that part!:p I actually fixed it for the most part, but I noticed, now that the motor has some punch to it, that the motor mounts are SHOT! The whole motor lifts like 5 inches! YEEEEE HAAAAWWW!

We got the stumble fixed, had the carb rebuilt and for some reason it just didn't like running with dirt in the float and cloging the jets?
