Suzuki Suzuki Samurai Engine Swap

First time poster here - forgive me if this is in the wrong forum/category.

I just picked up a 1987 Suzuki Samurai and would like to make it more of a road/camping trip car - not looking to do any serious rocks or trails with it and will be keeping it pretty stock.

Basically - I'm looking for input on what engine to swap for a little more power, I know the popular ones are the 1.6 from a Tracker or a VW diesel. I read through some of the older topics and know there used to be some members that hung around that did these swaps pretty often so if you have any advice please chime in.

If you've got an engine you're willing to sell PM me with the price - and if you know someone that's good at putting them in let me know to. If you have/do both even better!

Thanks

Seconded
If you are looking simply for more power, 1.6 is the way to go. I've swapped in a VW turbo diesel in mine. It cost way more than planned, took way more time than expected, and had more problems than I imagined. All have been worked out, but I would go a different route if I did it again.

X3, I've done this swamp a few times over a weekend...

fyi, the 16valve is the injected motor, this is also a pretty easy swap...mostly if you want to rock crawl on crazy angles without the carb dieing.

Welcome to RME, I fell in love with Sammy's a long time ago... great little rigs!!!

For tutorials and a more detailed list of how to do this swap or the basics of how to get your SJ up to par go to phttp://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/13-suzuki/.. you will want to get the starter from the donor rig as well when you grab the 1.6L motor. Basically you have a clocking ring on the back of the motor to mate up to the trans and its plug and play. If your keeping the carb do the vent tube kit to help with performance of fuel delivery. Also sand and clean up all grounds under the hood by the battery, behind the motor by the distributor to help with electrical gremlins.

i think the stock 1.3 new has 64 horse

the 1.6 8valve low 80

1.6 16 valve have 95

so even if you go with the 1.6 16valve dont plan on it being a race car or pulling trailers
