Swapping a 350 into a cj--wiring question

Just picked up a carb equiped 350 (out of 77chevy 1/2ton) and will swap into a four banger 84 cj7.

Was wondering if anyone had any experience wiring the distributer on one of these?
Can I pull an existing wire from the stock cj module?

Thanks for any input

A '77 Chevy should have had an HEI distributor... does it? They're very easy to wire, one hot wire should do the job. I don't see why you couldn't use power from the original CJ ignition wiring.

All that is necessary is to supply 12 volts to the power plug located under the rectangle sticking out the side of the HEI Distributor. There's also a plug for a tach, next to that.

If I remember correctly, once you wire up the starter/alt and the one wire Greg was talking about, you should be good to go. With the exception of any electric guages.

On my 84 CJ, it is a red wire with a white trace to run the power to the distributer. There is also a second green wire that is used for the tach. Yours is probably the same. Hope that helps you.

someone on her was giving away an AMC 360 which would have been just as easy to install into your jeep.... I think he might still have the engine.

I ran a 360 in my last jeep--very easy swap. I just picked up a 465 with 300 adaptor so I am going the chevy route this time.
