Switching from Superwinch to Warn hubs

Ok I broke a piece to my Superwinch hub on one of my axles. I went to 6 states, and several other stores and nobody dealt with Superwinch, so I bought 2 new Warn hubs and I'm trying to slide in the body assembly and it will not go in. I cleaned out all the mud between the tiny ridges with a sock because mud got in which is why the hub got messed up. I compared the body assembly between the Superwinch and Warn and it looks like the Superwinch is a tiny hair smaller but the store I bought them from insists it should work. I put a little grease onto the walls where the body assembly should slide in and it still is not going in. Are Superwinch and Warn slightly different sizes or should they fit? Anybody know of a store in Utah that deals in Superwinch hubs because if so I'm probably going to return my Warn and snag some Superwinches unless I can get this Warn to go in.

your axle is prob a 10 bolt, and the hubs should fit, unless they gave you the wrong ones, just make sure everything is lined up right, shaft splines and housing splines, wiggle it and push, never had that hard of a time with any of my warn hubs, ive removed and installed them a ton of times, and had different styles and theyve all worked in my dana 44s and 10 bolt axles, where are you located?

I've used superwinch and warn hubs in a 44, changed probably 50 of them with ease in just a few minutes.....

That being said, there were a couple of times where I was replacing a hub, and I couldn't for the life of me get it to slide in. I remember one time I spent at least two hours trying to wiggle, tap, slide, punch, shimmy a hub in only to call Bryson in desperation. Naturally, it slid in for him just fine first try. I can still hear God laughing at me to this day.

I think in my situation, the part that the hub slid into had been just every-so-slightly ovalled out from broken parts, and because of that it was sometimes difficult to slide a new hub in.

Moral of the story, sometimes they just don't cooporate.

this is a stupid question, but did you take out the snap ring going around the hub?

its happened to me a few times where i pulled out the old hub and went to slide the new one in and that snap ring was still seated around the hub.

(going from stock hubs to warn's)

On dana 44s I had bad luck busting superwinch hubs, upgraded? to warn 1/2 ton, broke them too, then went to warn 3/4 or heavy duty hubs. except for one that liked to slowly lock as the rig drove down the road? tire wobble? i had good luck with them.

I had the same issue with a hub not going on...screwed with it for hours...filed and cleaned up the threads on the spindle...no go, eventually it would start to go on a bit and get stuck. so i pounded that bad boy on with a BFH and made a special slide hammer tool to get it off again heh heh
to this day i don't know why one side went on perfect and the other did not but yeah maybe busting parts does something to the threads. I don't have friends like Bryson who can fix stuff without missing a heartbeat. :)

Checker Auto Parts keeps 1-2 sets of Dana 44 Super Winch hubs in stock at most of their stores. I believe they are ~$65 for the pair.
