SYE install -How hard-

So I did a cheap lift on my XJ and clear 35's after some trimming but now need to do an SYE kit. It doesn't vibrate all that much but under flex would probably pull off the shaft. So who makes a good kit (on a budget) and how hard are they to install ? Can you leave the t-case in or does it need to be pulled.
PS T-case is a NP231J in a 2000 XJ

whatever you do dont do the hack and tap jobby...they are worthless...you get what you pay for...go for a HD kit (AA, JB, Tera, etc) they are all pretty much the same. Check out www.highangledriveline.com Jess had a kit that you got both the HD kit and shaft for a good price...

The install is way easy if you're half way competent...My first one I did was on my 94 wrangler...I did it with the case still in the Jeep and it took an afternoon...the second one I did was in a cherokee and we decided to pull the case on this one...it took us a total of about two-three hours to do it, that includes pulling the case and putting it back in...WAY easier to pull the case but not necessary...

Not hard at all. Just remember to use lots of engine assembly lube. Take your time. This is something your don't want binding up on the trail. Dropping the tranfer case is easy. I bought the AA from Tom's Driveshafts with there C.V drive shaft for about 525.

I forgot to mention that hack en tap crap is for the birds...
BUY USA Advanced kit..Others are not up to par for quality.Same prices.
I pull them to ensure a proper job and seal...

Im intrested in this topic also Ive been hoping to pick up a NP231 for a good price and install my own SYE before putting in the case, Im not trying to hi-jack the thread here but is Tera the only one with a 4:1 for the NP231?

go with the advanced adaptors kit. I have personally installed two of them without pulling the t-case or even pulling the front output....it is tricky but can be done. I did my wrangler 231 and the competetion cherokee 231...plan on about 3-4 hours and use lots of assembly lube, you will most likely be pulling the bearings on the main shaft gears and putting it back on the AA main shaft steel on steel so get some assembly lube in there...

AA kit all the way!!!

are there any bearings that need to be pressed or is it pretty simple garage stuff. I've pulled them off the vehicle before and that was easy but never opened one up (that didnt explode already) before.

PS north carolina is a bitch to find anyone that knows anything about 4 wheel drive. Except for the people on this board from NC.
