Im setting up my doubler, and it looks to be the only option is cable shifted.

What size of cable is safe for a 231? I dont want to go too small and have problems. Is there a cheap wrecking yard option, or are morse cables the way to go?

Thanks for any input.

i would like to know more on your set up, im running a 241 right now behind a 4l60e and have been wanting to do a doubler. i need a little more gearing for decents.

Im running a box 4 rocks kit.

27 spline 231 from a s10 with 6 pinion planetary (5 bolt t-case) to a 32 spline 241 case.

My rig already has a 5 bolt adapter so this is just a bolt in. If you have the 6 bolt t-case you would need to source the 6 bolt 231 then swap inputs, or use the 5 bolt adapter.

I keep forgetting that you are doing a 231/241.

And your post clearly said shifter for 231...

The cable shifters I have seen, even the home brewed ones usually end up not real cheap.

Does any OEM vehicle have a cable shifter that you can swipe?

Are any automatic transmissions cable shifted? I seem to remember seeing a shift cable in the column of my parts f350 but that was so long ago that I don't remember anything about it. I seem to think it wouldn't have the force required to push/pull a t-case...

The mid 90's s10 blazer had cable shifted 231, but they are hard to find.

Im considering running pto type cables without a lever, if its not too hard to shift.

mcmaster carr has push pull cables.

I'd say 3/16's minimum and you need enough throw to engage the lever so like 2" travel.

at least 150lb rated so when you hammer it it wont break.

the junkyard solution is front wheel drive cars have push pull cables for their shifter.

I built one once out of a 3000GT

I am leaning toward air shifting my np231 doubler.

I will probably do a single, double action ram and have it go straight from High to Low, go right through Neutral. If I don't have the ability to put the doubler in Neutral it shouldn't ever be a problem.

I will probably run some linkage for my d300.

I figure one less lever to squeeze into the cab of the xj

Of course this will probably all change when I start tearing into it...

Here is a pretty big discussion on pirate, it looks overly complicated, if you have the space for the rams it seems to work pretty well.

I find that I need to put my front case in neutral on occasion to get the rear tcase shifted so I could see that as being detrimental.

Really?

Are you running an auto?

I couldn't see any time that pushing the clutch in would not do the same thing as putting the range box in Neutral?

my 205 had issues disengaging the front DS, I have read of other people that had similar issues, I would have to bounce the clutch or throttle to get the t-case to unload, putting the 203 in neutral didn't help the issue.

of course my box4rocks still hasn't shown up yet and haven't heard anything from Duffy so still can't say anything.

Who/Where are you having the case welded?
