Toyota Tacoma Spare tire hoist question

My spare tire hoist cable finally snapped on my 1st gen Tacoma, when I go looking for replacement it looks like in 2012 they switched from cable to chain. Are they compatible? Any reason I'd pick one over the other?

No idea if they're compatible, but I have an 80 series Cruiser one that is a chain. You're welcome to it if you think you can make it work.

It's pretty interesting that they have switched back and forth from chain to cable, then back to chain.
