tacoma v6 motor

no the 3.4 isn't that one.
that is the 3.0 that has that belt guide. But, the 3.4 is a all around great motor for doing swaps with. I miss my 03 taco I went further in my 03 taco with a 2 in body lift and 31's then a jeep with a 6inch lift and 34's, even pulled him out after he got stuck. If you are able to find a 3.4 with the ECU and Harness for a good price grab it up.

Whats a good price if I found a parts rig with one? K thing to remember 3.0 bad, 3.4 good. I just wasnt sure on the mileage on these and didnt want to get a pickup in the future if I was to get one and just have it die on me within a year.

if properly maintained they will last a long time. But they are still fairly new, so it is hard to say how long they will last. But, I would have to say they will last a while. Toyota put more time and research into the 3.4 then they did the 3.slow.

Mine has been through hell and back a couple times. I got it from my friend who has owned it since he was 16 and doesn't know how to take care of anything. His dad was the original owner. He has seriously beat the living piss out of that thing and it still runs like a top w/247k on it. That truck alone was what made me finally buy a small truck. I sold my 99 w/ 156k to him and it now has 175k and not a lick of problems. Just proper maintainance and your good to go!

Nobody knows how long they'll go because they none of them have died yet. :D

But seriously, I wouldn't be surprised to see one with over 300k on it. I also wouldn't be surprised if an abused motor didn't make it much past 220k. Do the timing belt every 90k and you'll be good to go. My buddy had a headgasket leak in his, but he's very rough on his rig. They're great little motors. I'm a little more partial to the 3rz 4 cyl, but the 3.4Ls are awesome too.

Its been said the 3.4 will outlive the legendary 22R/RE :eek2: I've had two and they have both been great. Timing belts are an afternoon job if you're mechanically inclined however the idler pulleys and water pump should be replaced at that time as well which adds to the cost. I don't think they are an interference engine (if you want to take your chances) but I could be wrong :-\

I would swap out the spark plugs right off the bat. Both of mine had multi-cylinder misfires shortly after purchase and sure enough they had parts store NGK's installed (unknown miles on plugs). Nothing wrong with NGK but the owners manual specifies a certain style of spark plug that I have not been able to source through the parts stores. Based off that buy the right plugs from the dealer--they're cheap and call it good :)

Ha that's what I was going to say lol :)
