I agree that you should think for some time before putting anything permanent on yourself. I you have any doubts at all, don't get it done.

i dissagree the majority of the good artists left big deluxe and moved to ONI tattoo go talk to john macafee or sara over at oni or go check out jareds work at apperision ink this is some of there work

Sara has done work on me and my wife as well as several friends of mine. She is amazing.

Here is the work she did on me.

So here's a question... how fine can a tattoo's lines be? The wife and I have thought about getting tattoos that somehow symbolize our kids. About the only thing I can think of that I would actually consider getting is their actual fingerprint on me somewhere. Would that be possible? Or would that be too fine? I could have their print taken and blow it up to an adult's thumb-print size, any bigger wouldn't appeal to me. What do you think?

I worked with a guy that had each of his kids right handprint tattoo'd on his chest. They were newborn handprints, I thought they were pretty cool. I'd consider something like that.

You should talk to Nate over at Lost Art tattoo he is awesome and does a lot of very fine lined work you would be surprised at what he can do.

Don't get something that is just a fad.
Go to a few studios and see their work. You may not find something at a studio, but it may help you define what you are looking for and you can find a good artist to do the work.

I'll chime in and say to wait till you know what you want.
The one year and picture hang things are great advice.
I've got two. A massive dragon with a rediculous amount of detail on my left upper arm. The downside to the amount of detail is that from a distance it just looks like a mess on my arm... but I really don't care. I got it for me, and when I look down at it, I see all the detail, each scale, and the shading and fine lines. Shain at ASI did the dragon. I did a ton of research, and most of the advice I got was that if you want a dragon, you go see Shain... if you want anything else, you go to another shop.

My second peice is a cartoon on the left side of my chest. It is a precious moments cartoon, slightly modified. It is two boys on a teeter totter. The one on the down side has blondish hair, and the one on the upside dosn't have hair colored yet. Neither of their shirts are colored, and they are wearing blue jeans and doc martins. There is a banner above and below the cartoon with my two son's names and birthdates on the banners. I'll probably get the donside shirt colored this year, and then wait till my second boy is old enough to have a favorite color for the upside... I'll also get the upside hair shaded soon, since the second boy's hair is probably done changing colors.
I'm kind of fond of the chest peice, for obvious reasons.... Knox at Attatude (sp?) did that one. He has a great touch, and is super super fast... which reminds me... if you choose a painful place for ink, find an artist who is fast as well as good. The closer to my armpit the needle got, the more my arm would spaz... there was nothing I could do about it.. completely invoulentary. For most of the procedure I was really relaxed, and actually fell asleep during shading on my dragon.
Oh... and don't go too long on your first sitting... my first sit on the dragon was almost 4 hours... total of 10 hours into the peice start to finish.

Edit: I remembered... my next peice will probably be by Steve at Anchor Ink. I've seen some of his work, and I'm blown away by the detail.

that is what i plan to do. hand prints of my kids on my shoulders. left on front right in back, like they are hanging on my shoulders. erin on one shoulder, jerem on the other. i would really like them to be acctual hand prints but i dont know how fine a line they can do.

I'm partial to Rich at Big Deluxe and Vic and Good Times.

Agreed! Rich however only works for close friends and what not and Vic is always at least a year out. Even so I will probably have my 1/4 sleeve done by Vic after all it's on you forever. Vic's work IMO is unmistakable. No other artist (at list in utah) uses such vibrant colors. I feel that ever artist has his own specialty so it depends on what you want.

Ill have to pimp Casey at Punctured Piercing and tattoo in Bountiful, I’m up to 5 and he’s done the last 2 with touch up on 2 others. He’s also the only 100% disposable shop in Utah. Great guy, all original work, clean as all hell and extremely professional.
