What are your plans for your tax returns? I just finished grad school so I didn't make a lot of money last year and I wasn't expecting a huge return, but according to tax slayer, I'm getting back like 4 times more than I made. I don't understand it... but.... you know what they say about a gift horse. I'm going to save most of mine, but I want to improve my rig's electrical system and add a switched aux fuse block so i'm going to do some research into one of those. I'm also have a .30-06 hunting rifle I want to sell and a TV I don't use so that will add to the pile.

How about you?

no kids for me. no, my return is 4x higher than what i paid in taxes. i think it's part of some tax credit I got for being a student.

Haha, We had many years of being a dink family. However, we have our boy and it doesn't make that much of a difference. The last couple years I've been an employer and tax time definitely sucks. This will be the first full year in several years that I won't have any of that to deal with...I'm looking forward to it, even if I do owe. :D

Make sure you're certain on that tax credit. Maybe you only paid a little bit in taxes, but the student credit isn't that much...One is up to $2500 or something like that but only part of that is refundable another is up to $3600. Just saying, be careful, it would suck to find out you really shouldn't have gotten it back and then have to owe...that happened to my brother a few years ago.

yeah, that would suck. I think I'm getting a $900 education credit and $500 or so in actual tax return, but I'm getting around $1700 back, including state taxes.

I got divorced last february and I remember comparing my joint return to my individual return just based on my W2s and the joint one was like 3 times more. I ALMOST called my ex up to work something out, but then I remembered i'd rather shave my balls with an angle grinder than talk to her again, so I took the $1000 hit, or whatever it was.

I'm getting married again this year, and i'll have a dependent then, so next year's return will be pretty good.

Haven't had a return in 8 years. Usually pay between 7000-11000 every year. Pretty much sucks! Perks of owning your own business I guess.

All that along with private insurance policy and employee's who lie to you. But you know what....it is worth it since my pay is determined by me and my days off for my kids are determined by me.

Yep. It's one of the few negatives. My father owned his own business when he was raising us. I wouldn't have traded the time for anything.

I'm trying not to have to pay. maybe 3 kids will help and a stay at home wife. i think I have a few deductions, her schooling, moving, use of vehicle for my old company, maintenance on said vehicle, and bought a house.

My gift will be paying off a hospital bill from the last kid and saving anything else for the one due in August, and having her tubes tied. 4 kids is going to be enough.

I don't understand why people want to get a tax return anyway. You are letting the government keep your money INTEREST FREE!!!!!! Its not a savings plan, its a rip off, not only the time you wait to get your money back, but the time and effort to fill out taxes.
