TBI 350 issues

So my CJ7 has a 1995 tbi 350, it runs like total dog poo as of lately. It hesitates off of idle with a load on it. And acts like it's misfiring at times. Does anybody know the ins and outs of these motors? I don't feel like messing with it to much. If it's going to cost more than a few hundred bucks to fix I would rather LS swap it.

How old are the spark plugs/wires/cap/rotor? These are about as basic of a motor as they can come. (hard to argue against the swap... you'd only get about three times the power or more)

I thought for sure there would be a TBI 350 expert (or 7) on here. C’mon RME

UNSTUCK

But stuck more often.
I’m no expert but like Marc suggested, just start with the basic stuff. How’s your fuel pressure? What’s your rotor and plugs look like? Ohm your coil. Within specs?

My fuelnpressure tester starts at 15 so no help on my TBI motor BUT, it runs better the higher in the RPMs you get so I don't think it's a fuel supply issue?

I have a friend with one in a jeep and it was doing something similar. He chased it for a long time ended up being the distributer, changed that, problem solved.

Dumb question...it seems like your cj has been sitting about as long as my tj...any chance the fuel has spoiled and you need to flush the fuel system and put new gas it it?

I've had similar issues. Once it was rotted rubber fuel lines behind the TBI, once it was a plugged fuel filter, and once it was the distributor. They're simple set ups but don't like it when one of the basics fails.

Pretty simple system. Typical tune up items (coil, plugs, cap rotor, etc.) and fuel pressure/filter/injectors are culprits

Im going to go through and do a full tune up tonight and then do some more depth investigating if it still doesnt run decent.

Probably the cheapest, simplist and easiest thing to do as the first fix is to replace the fuel filter. I just experienced the exact same symptoms with the Vortec 4.3 in my trail buggy caused by the foam insert deteriorating and plugging the filter multiple times. After pulling the foam out of the fuel cell and thorough cleaning, the engine came back to life again.

So in the spirit of starting off slow, since I have never tuned this thing up I started there tonight. Got new plugs, wires and cap and rotor installed with no change in runability. I'm going to go through the fuel system tomorrow evening and possibly even verify the ECM is getting 12 volts at all times. Just to rule out possibilities

As I was buttoning things up last night, I turned the fans off so I didnt have to listen to it run, with the fans off the started up and idled fine. As soon as I turned the fans back on the Jeep stuttered and died. So I Think the fan is pulling enough juice and not letting the ECM stay at 12+ volts. I will verify tonight and then if thats the case start figuring out why the alternator isnt keeping things charged up.

What style fan are you running? My Taurus fan was too much pull for the factory alternator. Those style are only 105amp if I remember right and only get that amperage at mid to high rpms. I had ACE's alternators in yucca build a cool guy 185amp and it's been great, run all my lights, fans, and rear steer and still maintain 14volts on the guage at an idle.

So tonight I checked voltage and it seems to be staying consistent. I also swapped the fuel filter.

Still running like dog poo... LS swap seems like a likely candidate. I'll throw a few more nights at this and see what I can figure out.

Do these TBI motors have any sensors that would cause this issue. Also it wouldn't idle with or without the fan on tonight.
