has anyone used a painless wiringharness? i'm trying to get everything together to do a motor swap into my cj, and i'm to the wiring, i dont know if i should just try to hack it a part or buy a after market kit, the motor is out of a 90 chev van[ 350 tbi] it dosent look real intimadating but it dosent look like much fun either. i'm just curios if anybody else has done a swap like this, and which route they went. thanks

I have my wiring harness off my Jeep. Your welcome to borrow it, to make your own if you'd like.

I have installed a Howell kit (GM TBI set-up) but it came with its own harness. From a reliability and waterproofing stand-point I would get a painless or similar harness unless you have access to the actual terminals and a terminal crimping tool etc.....

Butt splice conections, solder connections, whatever, they simply won't last as long (due to broken wires, corrosion, etc) as a well put together factory style (no butt splice connections etc) harness will last. I have made way to many electrical repairs of bad wiring to believe anything else.

Just my .02

I used the painless kit on my TBI 4.3L swap and it was super easy. They say something like 20 hours to put it all together when in reality it took me maybe 2 hours at the most...super easy. Just about any aftermarke kit will be this way though. The downside to the painless kit is the wires dont come in a nice loom, they come seperated into groups but thats about it. I have heard great things about the Centech kit...it is more money than the painless but it may be worth it. If you do go painless be sure to put all the loom on BEFORE hooking it up for the final time, do it while its out of the vehicle laying on the ground (hind site is always 20/20 ;) )
