Niether of us really like them....never been a grand fan...Sorry Cody:p

And I am much less tempted to mod a KJ;)

I am sort of watching for a Disco too, but just can't seem to justify it.

They just seem like such a superior alternative to the KJ. I just can't stand the 'cute' look. Seems like you should have a 'new Beetle' in the garage with Libby. (it's my opinion and I know what it's worth---and I won't say a THING about the Compass but......)

I always like the Grands, but Janeal never did. She did want a Liberty for a while though.

Marc, what the he!! are you talkin about, a Disco??????? Do you want more pain and suffering in your life? Do you like to buy expensive parts? I had a friend back in Virginia buy one for the same reason as you, and he works at a shop that builds bumpers and accessories for them. Ended up dropping about $2000 in 2 months in parts, just silly stuff that would go out and the dealer is the only supplier. He could do all the work and still decided it was a bad move and sold it in 3 months.

We ran into a group of the Lost KJ's on Kane Creek eairler this year... they look alright with a lift & some other mods. I think the CRD would be kickass... but I'm honestly suprised at the mileage those diesel engines get. 21 city & 26 highway? I thought they'd do better than that, considering how small the Liberty is. But 300ft/lbs is way cool... I wonder when the mods are going to start coming out for that motor.

Yea, kind of what I have been finding out, the more I look....

I understand what you are saying Marc, but I just don't care for grands....and the deals are not as good.
I really didn't like the KJ's when they came out, but they have grown on me:ugh:
Aside from the IFS the drivetrain is about the same....

a disco is not the best option for a DD for the wife. if you are good with a wrench, owning a disco is not expensive, and with the right knowledge parts are plentiful and widely available. There are lots of cross GM parts you can use. Biggest down side is there are not lots of aftermarket vendors so you do pay a higher price but on the flip side, they are very personal and extermly high quality. ZF Tranny, Gear Driven TC, V8 4.0L. these things are more reliable than most people thing.... but no one cares and that's great cuz it drives the prices down!

oh, believe me I held back. ;)

Well James... I (we) have a car, a cute little 2 seat convertible and I(we) also have a big giant truck and I (we) have a rock crawler...and now I want something in between. Is that too much to ask? :p

Its interesting hearing all the pro's and con's though. Thanks for all the input.

We are just in the looking phase so I bet Marc will post a few more of these with other vehicles that we are considering.

Back when the KJs first came out I had a brand new cherokee (XJ), went and test drove a Liberty and was seriously considering dumping the XJ for the KJ. It's not a bad vehicle at all. IMO, especially not for the wife to DD. The CRD would be awesome as well. You know you'll end up with whatever the wife wants :p That's why we have an 05 Grand Cherokee (minivan), I tried talking her into a brand new 4 runner but she didn;t want anythign to do with them :(. We were also considering the Discos until I started seeing a lot of articles, and reivews on them showing they are one of the least reliable vehicles in the country  that steered me far away from them (something like 1 in every 3 will have a major repair in the first year of it's life). Why not a newer 4runner? They are good looking, functional (TRD electric locker :p), and not badly priced at all (not as cheap as the libby, but not bad).

I just hate suv's regardless.

The only way I find them remotely acceptable is if they were built before 1980 and avalible in the US to the general public.

I will ask you this, what makes you think a suv is neccessary in your life?

The only KJ I have ever seen that I liked the looks of was sitting on a 44 and IIRC a 9" and some 35's.

I too hate the mini suv's but it's only a fraction of the hate that I have for the word "suv". I do like 70's and 80's Ramchargers and Blazers but I consider them short pick ups with a walk in shell.

You know the Jeepster is often considered the first SUV:D

"The story of the 2006 Jeep Commander can be traced back to the Willys-Overland Jeepster, the first SUV of its kind, sold to civilians in 1948. It had two doors and could accommodate up to five passengers. The 2006 Commander retains true Jeep heritage by offering authentic exterior styling, a well-appointed cabin and a number of safety innovations as standard equipment. The availability of the hybrid engine would make this an even better vehicle. As such, the 2006 Commander is recommended for families who need a SUV for cross-country drivin"
