Most studies are fixed to show results they need to prove there point. There is no way to dispute the faster you drive the harder your going to hit thus the more damage.
If we were only allowed to drive 45 MPH what do you think the finding would be than? More lives saved than the study showed at 55 MPH. No rocket science here. 10-20 MPH is a large impact difference.
You couldn't even average 1 min miles legally. That makes for a long trip to California with the kids.

You'd think it would be political suicide for anyone who tried to push for lowering the speed limits. I hope so anyway....

Do they take into account the number of vehicles on the road now compared to the 70's. Plus distractions are so much higher now also, plus dumber people
Cell phones, texting, more aggressive drivers... Those have to play a factor in the rising number. They really have no control group for their claim if you think about it. It's too dynamic.
But one thing is true, the faster you go the harder the impact.

X2 on that. Plus the amount of gas saved and hopefully less pollution. People have too many options to do something stupid while driving (texting, NAV, DVD, cell phone etc). I wouldn't mind if the speed limit in city areas was dropped to 55.

Nope. But I make a point not to drive over 70 in my JK. After that the gas disappears too fast for me.

I think the speed limit IS 55 in the city areas. Does anybody go that slow? HA! Only the ones in the fast lane.

Thats just because Oregon never bumped their speed limit above 55 except on I-5 on the rurual parts. Crazy Hippies, I guess I do miss not having to drive around all the crazies though, Oregon does just seem safer.
No kidding. It always amazes me when I'm traveling 70ish with most of the traffic you still have some nuts that come flying and swerving through maxed out at 90mph in a honda tin can.
Another thing I hate is when some douche with his stacks in his truck figures out that I'm driving a diesel too. For some reason he believes he has something to prove by speeding up next to me and trying to race. Happens all the time on my commute. What is wrong with people?
