TLDR - the 6th Court ruled in favor of a police department who arrested and prosecuted a man for making fun of them on Facebook, basically declaring that it was ok because the PD didn't understand that the posts were intended to be parody. That ruling has been appealed to the Supreme Court I guess, and The Onion has offered their legal two cents in a very Onionesque way. It's a pretty good read if you have a second, you don't need to know all the legal cases or follow all their references to get the argument they're making.

Dang, that’s brilliant. Guaranteed to be required reading at the court, and the most fun amicus brief they’ve ever received. “The 6th court was on the wrong side of Twain…”
