That's too bad. I don't wheel alone much, but I would like to pick up one of those SPOT GPS transceivers sometime in the near future.

When avoidable, go in a group. If not cover your basis, emergency prep kit, food/water and most importantly some sort of communication, be it a PLB, Spot, sat phone or HAM. Sad to see happen to anyone, we've all put ourselves in dumb places and its a humbling reminder.

I personally don't know the guy. (or maybe I don't remember him. after all it was the 70's)

I'm not going to even begin to slam the guy, but obviously there was a lot of mistakes made, and so much he could have done to save himself.

Personally. I don't go wheeling by myself just because I would probably end up dead too if something was to happen.....and I'm a fairly experienced wheeler. I admit I lack the proper survival skills.

I've always thought about how much it'd such to choke on a piece of food while out all alone..

Sucks..

i would rather die alone doing something you enjoy, than die on the couch watching T.V. i go wheeling , camping , hunting , fishing ,and hiking alone all year. i think it was when i was in boy scouts when i first started to "be prepared"
