well finally got tired of worrying about breaking my 3/4tons, so i finally nabbed a front 60 and an upgradeable rear 60! plus i was sick of riding my clutch up every obstacle and working the crud out of my 4cylinder. so heres the new plans:

Front dodge dana 60, 5.86 gears, durasolid full spool, high steer, spring eliminators, behind axle steering, btf diff cover, weld tubes to axle. need to widen out my front spring hangers and shackle hangers so the leafs are flared out from the spring perches on the axle being round 1" wider than a stock jeep mount.

rear axle is a 96 dodge 2500 60, welded rear carrier, 5.86 gears, hope to upgrade to 35 spline shafts and a durasolid sool, custom rear disc brakes, which by the way sucks trying to get a chevy rotor to "bolt up" to a dodge hub. took forever at autzone to find a stud that locked the two togther! tryed welding the original studs to the rotor but that didnt work. had to also hack up a ballistic fab bracket to fit on the axle. going to also make a new high clearence anti-wrap, last one got drug on everything.

then i'm doing the NP231-D300 doubler! cant wait for this! already got my case plus some new gears for it! after everything is said and done my crawl ration will be right round 160 to 1! shouldnt have a problem with gearing now plus front digs are going to be bad az in my mind.

but anywho, heres some pics of where its at.

ignore the welds, they are not cosmetically pleasing but are burned in deep! plus ya cant see them with everything on.

and heres my question, the rear axle uses one giant nylock nut for a spindle nut, to hold it in place is a little piece of bent up tin that you are supose to tap in and holds the nylock in place. any idea where i can get these? no part stores can get these or even know what i'm talking about.

My 4banger, dana 60s and area BFE = busted rear shaft (30 spline but 30 yrs old) and 35 spline hub. Alloys and drive flanges have helped so far :)
If i could do it over again i'd have taken my pals advice and went with 35 spline rear axles in the dana 60 from the start.

cool beans, your going to like not breaking.

well its not that i ever broke it, my 16 or what ever spline it was rear held up great, and i only broke a front shaft because one of the c clips came out when i had it on a bind and dumped the clutch.

Rondo, what kind of flanges you running? the front 60 i have uses drive flanges but one of them has play on the splines so i need to find me a replacement.

thanks for mentioning my part in all this. JERK!!!!

i did all the welding, i set up the gears(he helped), i swaped the axles by my self, and am currently rebuilding his 300 alone as well.

and gave him my spare 38s to trade for the front 60.

i dont ask much just not to be forgotten about.:(

There is much more to the story.

he got the 300 from a buddie for free. it came with the twin stick set up minus the shifters(easy enough to make), and clocking ring.

gears for it were 75$used but good. and the original bearings are very clean.

ooh cooorah calmer, its true, YROC has been a huge help in this! this is all he has done for me sense i work all day and it sucks working on crap in the cold:

pulled old axles, which he also did work on
stuffed the new axles after we stripped them and he welded the tubes to the housing on the front and rear
set up the gears with a little assistant from me plus he welded up the gears for me.
made the bad az spring eliminator top plates for my steering, made the mount for the ram, welded the tierod, up after cutting one bung end free so we could shorten it
made the mount for the orbital valve and got it all mounted.

theres probably more but i cant think right now. hes a great friend and smart as hell when it comes to welding and fab work!! its why hes my signature and why i'm having a huge sticker thrown on my hood when he can decide on some kind of symbol or design. but like he said, hes currently stripping my case getting it all cleaned of all the broke to hell gears in it. we should be able to have it in by either weekend or next week

should have my seal kit for the 300 in tuesday! ran into a problem with it though, the pilot bearing inside the rear output shaft that the front input shaft slides into binds BAD like i can literally screw the two shafts together til they tighten down on each other, not only does the bearing feel like one side is smaller than the other suggesting its in backwards but theres lot of up n down twist in the rollers, thats why we think its binding, anyone else ever encounter this problem?
