Thinking about buying a sportsmobile...

Joe

hmm
Anyone here have a sportsmobile? Or knows a friend with one? :)

I'm thinking about buying the ultimate adventure model: http://www.sportsmobile.com/ultimate.html

Any feedback? Is it liveable? I'm looking to spend 2 - 3 weeks in a time in it (2 people total) a few times a year. I'm also thinking that I can rent it out when its not in use for a little side money...

I've seen them at the RV shows and such (maybe not that particular brand but the same thing) and it would be cramped living for sure but it beats a tent and it's probably about the same as a standard slide-in camper room-wise.

3 weeks is a long time in a van, if I were in the same position I'd want something bigger.

Have you checked out the EarthRoamers? http://www.earthroamer.com/

There's a couple of guys running arond here with the EarthRoamers, one of them was following a killer Unimog with 4 doors & a huge camper on the back of it. I got excited when I saw that one. :D

Oh... I might offend some Ford guys, but the new 6.0 Powerstroke (the motor in that Sportsmobile UA) has a number of recalls on it. If you could find something without that 6.0, I think you'd be better off.

Same motor in the Earthroamer ;)

Yeah, we looked at the Earth Roamer as well. The Earth Roamer costs $200,000+, I can get the sportsmobile for 1/3rd that price. I'm sure its nice, but i think its too big and fancy for what I want.

I also plan on taking our Sea Kayak and Mountain Bikes with us everywhere we go, getting the toys on and off the sportsmobile will be much easier then the ER.

Price makes all the diffrence then. I don't see why the Sportsmobile wouldn't do the job. I'd go with a Chevy platform over the Ford though. If the Chevy comes with the Duramax diesel I think you'd be miles ahead and that's a badass motor.

Looks like they use Dynatrack axles, which are probably some of the best parts out there.

They look like cool rigs, get one & we'll take some killer trips. There's some great places you could drive to around here, camp & explore.

I have had good interactions with Sportsmobile. They seem like a good company. They are aslo doing their own 4x4 conversions now. The on they had at the OR show had a prorock 60 frt and an Atlas!.

Ive seen in side both and it is tight. I like the Sportsmobile it looks thinner and Ive seen them in some narly areas.

I thought about looking at one a while ago. I just decided I would roll it.
