Three days in the Great Basin

On the last weekend in May we went for a Great Basin exploration trip. Our goal was to make it mostly on dirt roads so we started in Vernon and went out Cherry Creek along the back side of the Sheeprock Mountains to Erikson Knoll. We then went south to Desert Mountain and from there we went into Delta via Sugarville to top off the tanks for the next leg of the trip. After gassing up and grabbing a bite to eat we headed a bit past Hinkley and went up into Antelope Springs to dig some trilobites and camp for the night. The next morning we went through Marjorum Canyon, across the Tule valley to Cowboy Pass. From Cowboy pass we went to the Robinson ranch then turned south and went to Baker Nevada. We then went into the Great Basin National park and got tickets for the Lehman cave tour. We just barely missed the tour so we had an hour and a half to burn so we headed up the Wheeler peak road for some great scenery. After coming down we went through the cave which was a fun tour. After the cave we talked to one of the rangers about 4x4 trails in the area and he told us of a trail that was near the Grey Cliffs campsite. He warned us about crossing the stream unless we had snorkels since they had to pull someone out the day before. When we got there it wasn't as bad as he made it out. He was correct about the trail being overgrown so now I have plenty of pinstripes to buff out. After coming out near Garrison we went up Snake Creek to camp for the night. It was a very nice area to camp. There was a nice stream and plenty of camp sites. We only saw one other group camped along the entire road. After a good hike in the morning and some grub we headed back into Utah to try some of the Notch Peak Offroaders trails. After the trail ride we went to Notch Peak then headed due north along the House range to the Fish Springs range and got on the Pony express trail and headed back to Vernon. We had a great time and saw a lot of great scenery and din't meet anyone on any of the trails except the Pony express trail. Here are a few pictures.

Great Basin Park is a nice place, I like exploring that area.
There are so many different types of scenery from the desert floor on up to above tree line. The Bristlecone pines are amazing. It's been a few years since I was in the park itself.
