So my Jeep is still at Six States because they can't seem to figure out my axle issue.
Right now it's got USA Alloy shafts in it. The problem is that both shafts measure 29.75 inches. The driver side is acting fine but the passenger side has 1/4 inch of end play.
The guys at USA Alloy are telling Six States that the passenger side is supposed to be the short side, but they are telling me that the passenger side is the long side. Everything I can find seems to confirm that the passenger side is supposed to be the long side. So there is conflicting information from the same people over at Alloy USA.
So since the passenger side seems to have been right to begin with, what could cause this much end play? I took a look at the shaft and the bearing is not held on very well, the seal and bearing both move a 1/4 of an inch. Would it be possible for the geniuses over at six states to just not press the retainer all the way on?
Can anyone tell me the correct orientation of the retainer plates? I believe they were on correctly to begin with since they were installed just like Stu Olson's install here http://www.stu-offroad.com/suspension/d44brake/bc-1.htm but six states is telling me that they were backwards. I believe with the plate facing the wrong direction it will only allow my bearings to wear out.
I hope I explained clearly enough what the issue is and asked the right questions.
