So my Jeep is still at Six States because they can't seem to figure out my axle issue.

Right now it's got USA Alloy shafts in it. The problem is that both shafts measure 29.75 inches. The driver side is acting fine but the passenger side has 1/4 inch of end play.

The guys at USA Alloy are telling Six States that the passenger side is supposed to be the short side, but they are telling me that the passenger side is the long side. Everything I can find seems to confirm that the passenger side is supposed to be the long side. So there is conflicting information from the same people over at Alloy USA.

So since the passenger side seems to have been right to begin with, what could cause this much end play? I took a look at the shaft and the bearing is not held on very well, the seal and bearing both move a 1/4 of an inch. Would it be possible for the geniuses over at six states to just not press the retainer all the way on?

Can anyone tell me the correct orientation of the retainer plates? I believe they were on correctly to begin with since they were installed just like Stu Olson's install here http://www.stu-offroad.com/suspension/d44brake/bc-1.htm but six states is telling me that they were backwards. I believe with the plate facing the wrong direction it will only allow my bearings to wear out.

I hope I explained clearly enough what the issue is and asked the right questions.

Yes, there is a L & R axle on TJ 44s which I also believe is 3/4 difference. The raised ring on the retainer should point inward to make up for the thicker backing plate of the disc kit.

Yeah six states refuses to install them that way unless I want them to do it and have no warranty I'll see how it goes and take it from there. I don't think I will be taking anything back to those guys I will just drive to six states in slc.

The Orem location has had issues in the past, why did you take it all the way down there from Clearfield? Have them call Eric at the SLC shop and he will correct them, or have Eric call them.

It's actually the ogden shop. I think I will give the guys in salt lake a call. I've now heard from a couple people that the ogden shop is not near as reliable.

I have never heard of issues at the Orem shop and I know first hand they do outstanding work.

Please share your experiences.

Well after a week and a half I finally have my answers and I should get the jeep back soon.

I guess they had a new guy do the initia work and he isnt the smartest. He didn't bother the check the BOM on my axle. They got the passenger side sorted out with a different bearing. As for the driver side I am in the process of cutting a half inch off the end so it doesn't hit the cross pin. It's kind of a pain since I can't heat it up too much and the best thing I have is a chop saw, but it will get done and put back together right.

Once Leon at the Ogden shop took over and started from scratch I got all the right answers and I have faith in what he is doing now.

I have never had an issue in Orem either. It comes back exactly how it should everytime. I've never heard any complaints about the Orem location. Kent and Kevin are awesome!

Ok no more faith in these guys, I told them they had the axle retainer plates in backwards and they would not believe me. Now both sides are leaking. I'm gonna take it back this week and hopefully they can put this thing together right.

Well I finally got a call today saying that they finally found the information that tells them to put the retaining plates in the correct way. They then tried to tell me that i had the wrong plates. So I went up there and put it together myself in front of them to prove them wrong. If they had only listened to me a month ago I would have been able to drive my jeep a month ago. I will never take anything back to them again.

WOW, can't believe you've had that many problems with them. I would never go back either.

It just blows me away that they would not listen to me. They didn't believe that the lip on the retaining plate is supposed to push against the seal. Then they wouldn't believe me when I told them the long side was the passenger side. I don't know how many times I've had to drive up there and show them in person what they were doing wrong.

Lessons learned right.
