I went with the Kargo Master Congo Cage as well. I'm looking at racks now. What did you need in order to install the basket/cage to the congo rack?

Thanks,

Chad

Well I ordered the mounts from kargo master which attach right to the cage. I had to drill holes in the mounts to use u-bolts to attach the rack. Apparently the mounts I got were just to mount the actual rack mounts to but I was not going to spend another sixty bucks only to make my rack stick up another two inches. But in doing that I had to roll the top bars down so the hump did not stick up. There is plenty of clearance with my soft top to just have straight bars. When I get a chance I will get some pictures of what I did.

Well I drove the Jeep for the first time in about two weeks today and now I noticed I've got some pretty bad death wobble at about 40mph. Before when I was driving it I thought it was just a tire out of balance because it really wasn't that bad but after this last wheeling trip and with the doors off looking at the tire driving down the road and watching it move back and fourth it is a whole lot more noticable.

I guess I'll end up just upgrading all my steering, I can't really see a point in replacing stock parts with stock parts just for them to continue having bad geometry and wearing out anyway.

Well I figured out why it felt like it was running rough. When I did the Tcase drop I didn't drop the crossmember for the transmission skid. A couple of hard hits pushed it up just enough to make my trans pan rub on the skid which was sending the vibes through the chassis.

I also noticed that because I hadn't dropped the front of the skid my driveline was rubbing on the crossmember. So I guess some washers or just some body lift mounts from fat bobs will get the job done for that.

I still haven't narrowed down the death wobble. I did a home alignment to get the steering wheel back where it belongs which didn't cure it. Then I rotated the tires to see if it was a tire out of balance. No luck on that one. I guess I'll start double checking all the TREs and take it from there.

Cured the DW. Well at least good enough for now. The steering stabilizer was loose. Tightened it back up and lubed everything while I was down there. It has a very slight shimmy I can't feel it but I can see it in the steering wheel if I let go at 42mph. I will still upgrade the steering since obviously something still isn't quite right. But it is no longer scary to drive.

Well I finally have the money for the next upgrade. I'm pretty sure it's going to be a SYE and CV driveline so I can ditch the T-case drop and get some clearance back. I just need to get the money in the bank and get it all ordered from Tom Woods.

Well scratch the SYE. After thinking about it I realized I can deal without it until I have suspension that actually has good travel. So as long as the mail lady doesn't let me down I will be putting a Spartan up front tonight. Monday the spool is going away and the LSD is going back in.

I ordered my SYE off ebay for 170 bucks and just used a good junkyard XJ front shaft and had it cut down for my rear its a much cheaper route to go than ordering the whole she-bang from tom woods

The jeep is now locked front and rear so tomorrow should be a good day of wheeling.

Installation of the Spartan was a snap. Having just replaced the unit bearings a few thousand miles ago certainly made things easier. I'm not sure if I could have done it without removing the carrier but it just seemed easier to take it out and do it that way. I really can't wait to try it out.

Tomorrow will be the first time I've wheeled locked front and rear and it will be the last time for the rear being locked for quite a while but at least I'll get to see what I've been missing.

Get a porc sye for $170 and buy a xj front shaft from the jukyard. Tatton's drivelines will cut it to length and balance it for like $90

I still have some research to do on which one I want to do. I really like Tom Woods quality and their prices aren't too terrible actually. Money is always king though.

Or just buy my 231 with a nice SYE this winter after I install my Atlas. ; )

That could be an option.

how did it do with a front locker?

I loved it. It is so smooth. It was really nice being able to crawl over obstacles which in the past I had to either throttle over or take a strap. I could honestly feel the front locker doing more for me than the spool ever did. Which is why I am really happy I'm putting the LSD back in.

I dropped it off at Six States this morning. For those of you in the Ogden or nothern Utah area, Tony the manager of the service department is awesome. Their prices are pretty good at least in my eyes.

I honestly think that with the front being locked and the rear not destroying my tires and wearing out my suspension and drivetrain I will be so much happier with this thing.

Hey man, good to see the jeep progressing along. As a few others have suggested, you can put together an SYE kit and econo shaft pretty cheap. Hell, I might have an extra CV shaft I'll give you. Just have to tube/cut. I grabbed a durango front shaft for jenn's old LJ. I think I had 85.00 total in it.

Once you get the SYE, grab one of these. Will do just as much for you as an upgraded lift;:

Yeah I do plan on doing a high clearance skid before I even consider making this thing any taller. I would rather have the better ground clearance and then work on getting my suspension figured out for more downtravel.

Well I just drove the Jeep home today and I'll have to take it back tomorrow. I had them replace the seals and the passenger side is throwing oil bad.

On a good note, it was really nice to not hear the tires grinding away.

So here pretty soon I think I'm going to have to get those upper links done. The problem is the exhaust will be in the way. It will be a quick and fairly cheap way to four link the rear. It's not completely in line with my end goal but when you build a rig one step at a time it always costs more money in the long run.
