I just installed the Rustys Offroad Steering conversion on 79J20's LJ and it is beef! its the standard drag-link and full tie-rod conversion. It looks really great, was super easy to install and align and feels like it could take a beating! $260 at Rustysoffroad.com

The zj v8 tie rod is a direct bolt in swap for the xj. I did mine yesterday. Cheap upgrade, and about 50 percent bigger made of solid stock

So this is what i did 2 peaces dom 1 1/4 281 wall one aprox 48 inches, 1 aprex 38 inches.
2- es2234r tre $19.00 each, 1-2233L $23.00. these are 34 ton 1 ton tre depens on who u talk too.
Remove old steering.
taper ream outer becarfull not a lot as you can go to deep.
ream test fit.
until you get it close , mark reamer and do other side. easy does it.
as for the steering box we used stock th rubicon tre.
7/8 x 18 tread same ase the 2234 and 2233 ends.
the 2233L has around hole for tre to go into this also needs reamed. direction i used was front to back. you could do back to front if your s has the room.
This way you can get all the parts you need form any parts store the tre are chevy parts.
I have also saw several post on just buying grand cherokee v8 steeering that is heaver.
ben hanks did the 7/8 treading for me on my last one.
taper reamer was $85.00, but i used it at least 10 times so thats $8.50 per time & still have it.
you can puchase 7/8 right and left hand taps, and drill bit for $210 so this way is expensive for 1 job.
dom $ 7 Plus a foot. i have used almost 20 ft on my projects.
will post pictures

Muddyjeep what are part #s on your tre and do remember cost?
could see were the ofset would help.
were they 7/8 thread?
did you have taper ream your ends to fit.

Can't remember the part numbers, picked up the TRE @ Terra Flex
for $110 for the pair I had the Tie rod built @ Ben Hanks.
did not have to do any reaming, it was a direct bolt in.

After a good steering upgrade, what suggestion's on a the front sway bar? Rockjock, disconnects etc?. Do you simply remove the rear sway bar? Never built a Cherokee, but it's my wifes weekend wheeler, fit's the kids!
