To Black Box or not?

Ever since Northwest Fab announced they where introducing a Black Box for the Atlas II I have been on the list. The first generation had a problem with the shifter mechanism. But the issue has been resolved and the units are back in production.

I got a message yesterday that my name is coming up and if I am still interested I should contact them to make the deal.

SO… I really really really want one. It’s a trick piece. I like widgets so one more lever is always good. 1:1, 1:2.72, 1:4.3 and 1:11.7 ratios, I really want the go fast 2.72. Its got it’s own oiling system, so the problem the 4 speed Atlas has is eliminated. I want to build a consul to bring my trans shifter to within comfortable range while filly belted in, I would stitch the t-case to cable shifters too and place them accordingly.

But is it worth the investment? Another thing to go wrong. 4” longer drive train. Going to have to modify drive shafts (I have been looking to do new ones anyway).

I wonder how much you would use 11.7:1 on the east coast. Anything I've ever been on out there required wheel speed. :( That would be Rausch Creek and Paragon.. and other PA trails. :D

I would go with the supercharger instead. :D

Would that be the supercharger he already has?

I'm personally a fan of keeping things simple, so that's where my vote would go. Spend the money on an enclosed trailer or something. :D

I'm with Carl, 11 to 1 is stupid low. Only an underpowered Toyota could benefit from that, and with the power you have, you can plan on repairing a ton of other parts.

Keep it simple, and wheel it into the ground.

2.72 would be nice for go fast. I don't know if id be happy with only a single low range, at least on a dual purpose rig. A low low range like 4+:1 is nice for technical stuff, but id be sad not to have a "normal" low for sand and go fast stuff.
