Torn CV boot ???

So I just noticed last night that both inner CV boots are torn on my 96 4runner. From searching the web it sound like a pretty easy fix, but my question is are there better boots out there or is it best to replace the whole CV shaft while I’m there? Just don't want to have to do it again a couple months down the road.

I figured the boots wouldn't last very long since they probably are the original boots, and I just put a lift on the 4runner.

Are the newer boots you get from Autozone a better material then the original boots?

I just replace mine, I went with OEM... Toyota makes good stuff, think of how long those original boots lasted ;)

Definately OEM. The aftermarket high angle boots suck and any you get at the parts store. They are pretty cheap at the dealer and the newer ones seem to have less fins then what they use to make. The older replacement boot on my driver side touches but the newer boot on the passenger side doesn't. The only thing that sucks is they use two different type clamps on the inner. Make sure you spray the new boots with silicone spray if they touch for the first few weeks every day or they will wear a groove quick until the grease can soak into the raw rubber from the inside. Some may laugh at this but it is from experience and recommendations from Toyota techs.

I think I might just get the whole CV axle, since i'm sure these are the original shafts.

I was planning on getting the axles from Autozone since they come with a lifetime warranty that also cover the boots. The silicone spray is a good idea thanks.

I would replace them, especially if the grease has escaped out of the boot. I noticed a hole in one of my boots and went on a road trip regardless. Had to do a U turn and Pop! This happened because I had been running around on a CV joint with no grease for who knows how long.
