I am currently swapping a 1.9 turbo into my 84 Toyota pickup, today I sold my 22R and the guys suggested that I start a thread about my swap so I am.

Right now I am still trying to get the engine and transmission together so I can fab up some motor mounts. I can't get back to working on it untill the weekend because of my work schedule.

nope Toyota only made a 2.0l diesel i believe, but they are HARD to get ahold of, and with the turbo even worse. I went another rout for my diesel fit ;) it is a 1.9L Turbo from VW, this motor came out of a Canadian 96 golf. The 1.9 is similar or even lower than the 22R but mine was smoking black bad and I would only get like 8-9mpg. On th 1.6 the hp and torque increases dramatically just by adding an intercooler, so I plan on adding an intercooler to my 1.9, and that should bring my torque up over the 22R and my hp up to the 22R. Also the diesel likes to run at lower rpms, so with my 33 the 4.1 gears will be perfect ;)

22R
96 hp @ 4800 rpm
100 lb-ft torque @ 2800

1.9L Turbo
75 @ 4200
100 lb-ft torque @ 2800

1.6L Turbo
68@4500
98 lb-ft torque @1800

1.6L TD w Intercooler
90@4100
125@2400 lb-ft torque @1800

Awesome! It's a 1.9l Toyota Turbo Diesel, correct? What are the specs on that engine?

What are you using for a adapter? The picture doesn't really show it too well. I've been interested in a vw diesel swap for some time. Parts place in MI has some 5 cylinder diesels that put out 140 hp and over 200lb/ft. Also how are you routing the exhaust? Are you running the electronic injector pump control, or manual?

the adaptor is from acmeadaptors.com. the exhaust comes out the passenger side so i will have to re-route it to the drivers side. the electronic injection would be with a tdi, mine is mechanical, ALOT easier to deal with ;)

Back when I worked for RRO in Heber, we had a Sami with the same non-computer controlled 1.9L VW diesel (which also came from Canada). Not sure what became of the rig, but at the time was pretty cool...
