having a hard time finding fj 80 axles

i think kurt still has a front

so i am thinking about running fj80 front dana 60 rear..

as far as i can tell you can get 4.56 R&P for both

not as low of gear as i want but still not bad.. i think it would be around 140:1 lowest gear but im just guessing to tired(worked grave yard last night) calculate it again

built/turbo'd 22r maybe 160 hp or so

dual cases 4.7s in the back case
samurai/tube body & chassi(fairly light)
40 inch tires

anyone see any problems? besides i never be able to going to a deeper gear?

i like my rear wider than front.. last set up rear was 3 inches wider
i believe most 1 tons are 67.5 -69
fj is 63 i think. then run 1.5 spacers..

if this is a horrible idea please let me know.

i did want to set it up to have 1 spare driveline that would work for both and this would screw that up..

you dont think that would cause to much binding? i want to race in dirt riot next year( i can dream right) so i would hate to have doing something like the cause me problems.

i know in cralwers guys get away with 5.38s and 5.29s but what about going fast?

stock 60 rears are almost always 30 spline, unless it's a van... then 32.

9" stock were 28 and 31.

The reason I ask is: it's cheaper to do a semifloat 6 lug 9" rear than convert a rear 60 to 6lug and make sure the one you get has spindles big enough to fit (or big enough to bore to fit) 35 spline shafts.
I would not wheel a stock 30 spline shafted 60 with a tire bigger than a 37. ever.

In my opinion a 9" is an easier axle to build strong than a fj80ff rear.

just curious: why did you like your rear axle 3" wider than the front?

a semi float 9 is stronger than a full float 9.5? sounds like a good way to go then.

more stable when putting the front on things.. and i couldn't run big wheel spacers on front.. and needed to be that wide to clear my cage at full stuff so i liked it because thats what i had to do ..

maybe i will look for a 9

stay 6 lug to keep it simple.
I think you should consider a Toyota 6 lug rear. later models are a bit wider. My pal with his 1/2 truck 1/2 buggy has never had an issue with his. it will fit a disk brake kit. and that rig has done the hardest trails in moab and colorado. I don't recall what it measures out but his was a 92 pickup. You might also consider an isuzu dana 44 rear. I ran one for years. it had factory disk brakes and was 58 wide. It was semi float. after a few years of hard abuse i bent one of the shafts. put in another one and kept the bent one for a spare.
My pal Shon spun the center on his 14bolt with a 4 banger automatic! heh heh
The Ford 9 does not impress me as i've seen quite a few blown up. Unless you replace the center section with a strong aftermarket piece but then it gets spendy.
