Some guy wants to sell me a set of rear springs from an 85 4runner and says that he used them as front springs and got a 4" lift. Is this for real? Has anybody done it and how is the ride/flex?

Thanks

It's a common swap, there's tons of info on POR about it, in the Toyota Forum. The basics are that you need to add one or 2 arched springs, because the rear springpack alone is super-soft on the front of a rig. If you don't add leafs, the springpack will fatuige & sag quickly.
