Toyota Supercharger Removal

I'm contemplating removing the supercharger from my 03 Tacoma with 3.4 motor. No fuel mods have been done to my truck so I don't want to shorten the life of my motor because of this. I don't have the time or ability to let my truck sit there while it is built and tuned. What all is needed if I remove it and replace with stock parts? How complicated is it?

you pretty much need the stock intake parts.
intake (top/middle plenums)
stock alternator belt
and stock intake hardware
remove super charger belt tension (if it has it, early models didn't come with it)
maybe some small vacuum line depending.

Its a pretty simple setup. the supercharger shouldn't have any ill effects, seen tons of them running around and not a single issue yet. however if you want to swap to stock I should have everything to do so. pm me if your interested.

What symptoms are you having to justify removing it? Having driven Lewis's Tacoma and my unsupercharged 4Runner I know you will miss the power.

Lewis' has the urd 7th injector kit, and a few other hundreds of dollars programmers, and on top of that he had it tuned. It runs great, it's just every one in a while when you step on it it stutters a little lime it's not getting enough gas. That's the only issue really. Not a big deal, just something I've noticed. I've talked with Lewis a lot about his already and learned a lot from him.

I drove Lewis's before he did the fuel mods and tuning so my opinion is still accurate. I know it drives even better now. I can understand wanting the simplicity and reliability of losing the supercharger.

Used, complete kits generally go for $750-$1K. Check out ttora.com, tons of guys there have put them on, so I'm sure you could find some good info there.

I would find someone that can swap the intake parts from their engine to yours. That will save you the time of hunting for parts.

Sounds like I need to drive one without a supercharger first. Sounds like it makes a big difference. I wonder how gutless it is without one. If I can only get 750-1000 for it then it's not even worth it to take it off. I was thinking it'd be worth quite a bit more and give me funds to build my truck.

Unloaded with an auto it's not bad, but the truck isn't 'quick'.

Loaded with gear or pulling a trailer is where the supercharger shines, IMO. Yes, you get less mileage but if I were in your shoes I'd keep the supercharger and fine tune it over time... add the 7th injector, etc.

The TRD supercharger isn't going to hurt anything or do any damage, they're engineered by Toyota.... they know that the 3.4l and the TRD supercharger are a winning combo and Toyota wouldn't offer it if it would damage an engine.

By design, superchargers and turbos are meant to provide more power and better fuel economy. Keep your foot out of it and you should get better mileage.

There is no shortage of guys wanting to step up and relieve you of your intake system, that should tell you something.

Indeed there isn't! My 4Runner is in need of one someday ;)

Was this S.C. added to your engine or was installed at the factory?

Most injectors are not run at their full duty cycle so it should just be a matter of getting it tuned.
I wouldn't think that adding another injector would be necessary, simple increasing the duty cycle of yours should be just fine.

If it was installed by the factory I would worry less about it but it is running lean.

Gas mileage isn't an issue to me. I just want it to run smooth all the time. I wish I knew how to tune it myself but that's not something I want to screw up. It was installed by the dealership but it didn't come on the truck from the factory. That'd be nice if it just needed a tune. Any recommendations?
