was lookin on POR.So what dose the trail tough box do whats the gear reduction. Seems to me that you could just take the shaft from the trans to the t-case out and put another t-case in there?

you got it.

so if you have a 4.16 t-case and you shift both into low you multiply your 4.16 by 1.8 to get a total t-case reduction of 7.5 roughly.

all the total reductions can be calculated easily. here are some of my spreadsheet figures since yesterday morning...took me about 15 minutes.

I don't think the Trail tough box is the way to go in less you have the 6.1. I could sell my 4.1 and buy a 6.1 and some 5.38's and have a lower crawl ratio. foe a couple hundred bucks cheaper. You don't think you could just take teh shaft that goes from the trans to the tcase out and replace it with another t-case. it's almost the same size. Have you looked at thespidertrax box it lookes better and I think it's lower geared?

impressive! What's my final ratio with 4.27 R&P and 4.16 t-case.

If you were starting all over, what would be the best combo for the buck? (35" tires)

wort is gonna do his stock t-case, then a Marlin Toy box, and then a stock Cruiser t-case and rear axle. that's 2.8 in the first two, and i think 2. something, and 4.10's in the axles. that added up to be around 190 to one. He's gonna check that out.

people and their t-case dreams!!! 3 cases would be such a pain!! just think of all those damned successive levers sticking through your tunnel....forget about it!!

ok....here is how to calculate your crawl ratio.....

your first gear is 3.652 multiplied by your t-case , 4.16, and the multiplied by 4.27 ....... you can do different combos in there and you always use successive multiplication of ratios starting with 3.652 on down to your axle gears....as you stand we get...

3.652
x
4.16
x
4.27
-----------------
64.8712064

ok but for us, being around 100:1 is probably a good target to shoot for, after that, you start holding up the trail with stupid amounts of gear reduction

if you tossed in a 1.8 box you would then add in another figure to multiply in your equation up there so you would take

3.652-tranny
x
1.8 doubler box
x
4.16 t-case
x
4.27 diff gears
---------------------------------
116.76817152

just experiment with different t-cases and just multiply the numbers in there....plug in different diff gears.....have fun....

I am going for tranny+4.16 + doubler+ 5.38 in my dana 44s....

147.12242688....that is about damned perfect for my sissy ass zuk motor and it will still run in the dunes, snow or mud since the doubler box has a 1:1 high range so it is a direct throughput.

I couldn't agree more, having a selection of four diffrent gearings outside the trany is nice, no more having to use fourth and fifth gears just to go 20mph down the trail. When you need extra low, you can have it, when you only need kinda low, you have it, and when you need high, its there too.

The Spidertrax is 2:1 vs. 1.8:1 for the Trail Tough. The drawback to the Spidertrax set up is that it REQUIRES a Sidekick/Tracker transmission and t-case, which means you have to run a 1.6 Sidekick/Tracker engine (which would be nice:) ) AND that setup is 1" longer than stock. Good for a buggy, but for those of us running stock chassis, the install could be tricky. Brent's Rock Block, IMHO, is a far better choice. It is less money, fits easily with stock Samurai running gear and is nearly as low.

As you figured out, you can get pretty low with other combinations (I am at 98:1 with 5.8 t-case and 4.57 R&P) but I am still drooling over what a splitter would do. Can't too rich or too low!:D

I think spidertrax said that there working on the samurai Box. How about my 4.1 with 5:38's. Can't do much more inless i get a lower t-case. don't really want to spend that money. just want to work with waht i got.
