The driving light feed is common to both sides but the turn/brake feed is a seperate wire for each side. If you have lost both left and right sides either both left and right bulbs have lost the same filament, there is a problem with the signal feed or you lost the ground wire connection. The turn light filaments draw more current and need a good ground, the driving lights draw less and can often find a ground return through something else. Did you lose both brake and turn or just one of the two ? If you are using brakes without the turn signals on then the left and right sides share the same feed, turn signals interrupt whichever side is turning. Another thing to check is the brake/turn combiner module if your tow vehicle has seperate turn and brake lights.
