trailer tires

I have been less than happy with the life span on the last couple sets of tires I have run on my boat trailer.

Any suggestions for long lasting trailer tires?

Please let me know if you find anything. I have 4 trailers that have 16 tires between them. I seem to go through tires like the are going out of style. Seems like I need one everytime go to Moab. Terry at Terry's tires, keeps taking my money.

I had GoodYear brand tires on my boat that were two years old. I was heading to Sand Hollow from Kaysville and by the time I hit Cedar, I had replaced all of them. Lost one near Nephi, put the spare on and got a new spare in Nephi, lost another before Filmore, lost another 10 miles out of Cedar, limped to Cedar and told the Big O guy to replace every one of them. The family joke is that I lost the rubber before I got to Beaver. Trailer tires suck. They don't last and they are expensive.

I can tell you that the Jaxxon brand wears FAST, I have found Carlisle tires to last a little longer. I had good luck with some loadstars (probable the longest lasting)

I've had WAY better luck with truck tires on my trailers than with trailer tires on my trailers. I'll likely never buy trailer tires again.

I agree with Mark. It is worth the money.

And for trailer tires, the concensus over on Pirate is that Maxxis is the best! :D

I have Mesa A/P 16" on my fifth wheel bought in 2007 at Big-O. They have approximately 7,000 miles on them, one trip was cross country, little or no tread wear except two tires are a little worn on the inside. It is a radial SUV/Truck tire that was balanced when put on. I highly recommend alignment of trailer, balancing tires and keeping at proper tire pressure. Shocks on the trailer help also.

I had fantastic luck with Maxxis trailer tires. I think they were the M8000? 205/75/15. I went from losing at least one tire per trip (if not more), to having 5 years of zero trailer tire problems. They eventually gave up and shed their tread, but I think that was more from sun-rot over the years. Since then I've bought cheaper tires since I don't trailer nearly as much--but I'm losing tires more often again. :( One day I'll learn that buying cheap stuff costs more money eventually.

I've been running Carlisle for a few years now on my car hauler.
My trailer gets pulled with a car on it probably 3-4 days a week.
I only use radials and I balance them also.

I run a tire store and still choose Carlisle.
I've considered changing to a LT tire but in a 215\75r15 its hard to find a good one that's not $150pr.

Jaxxon is what I have now- two trips to Powell, once each to Flaming Gorge and Willard Bay and 2 of the 4 are shot. Had trailer alignment etc checked and told all is well.

Luckily the ones on the horse trailer (not sure of brand) are holding their own. Will try to remember to check tomorrow what they are.

Well it's been two years since I posted on this thread I bought 5 new Maxxis tires and tonight I was putting new bulbs in the trailer lights when I notice two chunks out of the tread on one tire. I hate trailer tires. I am going to have a discussion with the tire place I use concerning some LT tires. Any updates on tires since 2012?

I don't know how heavy your boat is, but I have been very happy with the 14 ply Geostar trailer tires I put on my toy hauler. They have a square shoulder on them and seem to endure the scrubbing while turning much better.

I have had good luck with the Carlisle radials also. I use them on my car hauler that totes my jeep around. I have never had issues since I started using those.

I have had good sucess with Goodyear Marathon tires. I had them on my race trailer for five years before I sold it. I currently run Maxxis tires on my little flat bed trailer. But, they have only been on for six months or so.

Use Goodyear Marathon's on my Ranger bassboat. On my second set in twelve years! Keep them balanced, rotated, and the 50lbs of air in them. Rotate them side to side every winter. Unbalanced, low air, will do them in quickly!:usa:
