Trains

I know Cody would say I have nothing to complain about, but I have a train track question.
There is a line that runs from Sandy into draper, it crosses 106th, and 114th, and I think it crosses 7th... Is it still used? I was kind of under the impression that it was dead, but either there were trains on it last night, or they were testing some new ultra loud long range train horns near sandy.

Anybody know if they are live?

They haven't been used for years, it was a better route for the trains to use the tracks west of I 15. Those tracks connect to the light rail in sandy and I believe are slated to be used for the new Draper line. Draper residents living close to them have been really fighting it, but it should happen soon.

Thats what I thought... I've looked at google maps, and I only saw the one line that looked to connect to traxx.
The horns were rediculously loud last night. Woke my up a few times, and I'm on 6th east...

How to tell if they're used at all is to see if the rail is rusty or shiney. I do believe it's used on occasion. I also think it's accessed down by the old Geneva Steel.

You sure? I though that Sandy line still got used to run stuff out to IFA in Draper?

It crosses 114th @ ~5th East
It crosses 110th @ ~4th East
It crosses 106th @ ~4th East
Ties in with the south end of tracks at the Jordan High station.

Come to think of it I can't say I've seen a car on the track since Trax started running, but I have seen cars at IFA and they can't come in from the South anymore I think the portion through Draper and around the point of the mountain is gone? Heck the trains used to run quite a bit when I was a kid, I always remember the horns.

Is it possible they run regular trains on the Trax lines at night or are they physically different tracks not suitable for a standard train?

The tracks are the same and they are compatable. On the straight stretches it is possible, but most of the turns on the trax would prevent rails cars and locomotives from making the turns without derailing.

I think from Murray south there aren't any tight turns?? So they must transfer onto that rail out south somewhere. Somebody here has to know :D

You're right!

You're wrong! (unless you're talking about the downtown area, then I'll agree)

Between Midvale and Roper yard, out by the new hospital, the UP branches off the mainline over to the Trax line. Same guage.

Yeah downtown has the tight turns, but down south is straight enough.

Wasnt most of trax regular rail before the trax system was introduced?

I think it's funny when people get a house next to the rails then complain when they actually get used...

Meh... I was more curious than complaining. Truthfully I hope it was on that line. If these horns were coming from west of the freeway, that scares the poo out of me.

you did not know that if you buy a house you have all the rights and all the businesses in that areas have to cater to you. you bought the house and the airport should get quiet the gun range should have to shut down all because it disturbs the new home owner. We had a HOA in Colorado Springs tell us that we had to stop firing at night because they did not like the noise it detracted from the beauty of the local area. they even went so far as to sign a petition and give it to the local news paper. The Security Forces Commander's response was that the firing was the sound of freedom at work.

People that move in and expect a community to change for them should find somewhere else to live.
