Trans and tcase help

I put a post on here about a yj that i was going to be picking up that has a tbi 350 in it but it needs a Trans and tcase. I was going to just find something at a junk yard that already has a 700r4 and a 241 tcase but i talked to Novak today and they said i will run into a lot of problems and that combination would be to long. The Novak said my best option would be to find a 700r4 and get an adapter to mate it to a Jeep 231 tcase and get the shortest short shaft that they make. Novak sells a new 700r4 with the adapter and everything for around 1700 bucks then i have to find a 231 and do the short shaft and everything. So i figure 2500ish total if i get the new one. Are there any other options? Preferably a cheaper one, i want to do this build cheap but i don't want to cut corners either any help is appreciated

what Stracie said. Chevy passenger drop 241's can not be shortened as much as driver drop models-- go to JB Conversions page and see what I mean... but yeah, they're about the same size otherwise.

In my opinion, all YJ's should be cut up and stretched at least a little in the rear anyway. :D

JB conversions makes a Super Short SYE for the NP241 which will help you out a lot and its probably cheaper/easier than the adapters.

If you really wanted a NP231, you can also get a 700r4/231c out of an S10 pickup/blazer that had a 4.3l. You wont need any adapters to run that combo either.

I just finished putting a 5.3/4l60e/241(JB SS.SYE) in a YJ that had a 2.5/ax5/231(standard SYE) and I had to have the rear driveshaft shortened about 1.5" is all. I was even able to still fit a mechanical fan on the front of the motor so in reality I could have slid the motor forward another 1.5", run an electric fan and not changed the driveshaft at all.
