Trent's non samurai samurai buggy

I thought I would post some updates on this project while mine is on hold. For some of you who know Trent he has been wheeling for awhile. He has always had samurais. He competed in uroc and a few other venues. After almost 15 years of wheeling the Suzukis he is doing something different. We were talking about what to build and I was going to do a chassis from scratch but he ended up finding a nice chassis that was mostly done. It was built by Crane. The motor is a supercharged 3.8 liter Oldsmobile. He is running an adapter to a built 700r4 and then a Lovell transfer case. Then he got a pair of Dana 60s that were already set up. He has been collecting parts for a few months and we finally got most of it to my house so I can start assembling it together. The first part I starting working on was the front axle. Built a simple truss that also would hold the hydraulic steering. uploadfromtaptalk1409458830586.jpguploadfromtaptalk1409458871214.jpguploadfromtaptalk1409459011874.jpguploadfromtaptalk1409459029642.jpguploadfromtaptalk1409459052150.jpguploadfromtaptalk1409459080039.jpg

Looking good! I like the progress! Trent always competed with a blue samurai right? I think I remember watching him on Hammer Down 2.

I have yet to compete myself.... :ugh: finishing up my buggy to be hopefully competing next year, and possibly some WERocks. My build is in this section titled 'budget buggy build - take two' :)

Nice. Your rig is looking great! I just read through your build. Can't wait to see it in person. I am hoping to have trents and mine done next spring. I am doing a 3rd Gen 4runner. We both want to be at osrc.

Awesome

Also I made a little bit of progress. Got the rear truss cut out and welded up. Also got the upper frame mounts installed. uploadfromtaptalk1411944460458.jpguploadfromtaptalk1411944483131.jpg I wanted the rear to match the same look as the front. uploadfromtaptalk1411944580346.jpguploadfromtaptalk1411944611811.jpg

Had a good day today. Trent came over and brought some parts over that he had. We got the wheels, radiator, fuel cell, and a few other little parts. uploadfromtaptalk1412483090823.jpg
I already had the tires at my house but we got them mounted on the beadlocks. We also got the rear 4 link set up. Since we now had the wheels tires and suspension done we made ourselves a roller:cool:

I love how rigs look at full compression.

the belly should be around 18" at ride height. We are going to do a smooth belly.

The PO built a really cool radiator mount. They were also planning on running a really big fuel cell. I think it's about 30 gallons. He had another one that is around 10-12 gallons that I think we are going to run. He wants to have storage and a place for the dogs to ride in the back.

And here is a pic with the little fuel cell. uploadfromtaptalk1412483775474.jpg

Been working on it but not much to show. A lot of mocking up little pieces everywhere. The radiator and fuel cell are sitting there on their own. The drivers seat is mounted. The brake pedal is in place. The shifter is in place. Everything needs finished welding and braced but getting the placement done.
