From what I've been hearing Wyotech has gone down hill. Not say it isn't a good school or that you won't learn anything. I have just heard that for the money spent you don't get a good enough education.

The UVU hot rod class rival Wyotech classes in every way. They don't do tube bending though. Wonder if they would consider taking it up, or if there's even a market.

The Fab School in Cali is supposed to be one of the best. Though I don't think they do much with english and spelling. It's a little spendy and if you already have any fab skills, they don't care. They make you start at the beginner level. There are three levels and each one is about $7000. Sounds like you can pick your fab shop once you are through it though.

I think the Cali school is something like Wizards Fab school or something like that.

One of the fab schools recently went belly up, can't remember which though???

I've always heard good things about Wyotech and their graduates are likely recognized at far more places than a standard fab oriented guy. Not that fab only isn't a good direction to go, but it will severely limit your employment opportunities imo. Most fab guys used to be full on mechanics or have enough full mechanic experience to carry them over. Take SLC for example, how many full-time auto fabricators are there? Mabey a couple dozen including the hot rod shops. Mabey less? The other hundreds of fab dudes are setting up lockers and axles one day and building links and chassis's around them the next. Make sense?

This is a GREAT school! I've spent $25,000 of my hard earned money (will be for the next 7 years still to come...School loans) to go to school at WyoTech. Now, I'm not saying that it is the best school for what you are trying to learn... However, you MUST take a 6 month Core Program before you can take the Chassis Fab/High Performance Engines, and Hot Rod classes... I learned a TON of good stuff while going to WyoTech... Auto Mechanics, excellent fabrication and welding skills, and that I didn't want to be a mechanic the rest of my life. HOWEVER, would I do it again or suggest it to everyone?, no. I'm going back to school for Engineering. I've decided that unless you are 100% sure that you are going to become a Mechanic, dont go to WyoTech. Go to a school like Hot Rod U, or one of the other "Fabrication" Schools.

The Cost of the School vs. the Skills I've learned, hard to argue that I have learned a wealth of knowledge, but every time I make a payment on my school loans, I wish I would have spent the money on the U of U and started with getting my Engineering degree first.

Here is an option to you if you are seriously thinking about a school like WyoTech: I have all my handouts they gave me in school... (each course has its own 3" 3 ring binder) If you want the Chassis Fab and Hot Rod courses I'll offer making you a copy of them, You would have to pay for the copies and shipping though... There is about 1000 Pages (double sided) between the two courses. You dont get the hands on stuff the school would teach you, but then at least you would have a great resource to look over and start playing around with.

Just let me know...
