truck towing questions

We are looking to buy a Chev. Silverado '02 w/ Duramax 6.6. We are wondering if that will tow a heavy, huge camper and a trailer with a jeep on it. Any feedback?

Also, the asking price on the truck (w/ 110,00 miles) is $17,000. Any opinions on that?

Camper or camp trailer? 5th wheel? My dad does his 26ft 5th wheel and flat tows his jeep behind with an 03 Duramax, no problems at all. Power wise you should be fine, depending on what your definition of heavy, huge is (actual wet weight). If it is a camper, you should be fine. If it is trailer, double towing two bumper pull units can be sketchy, especially depending on length. As for length, Utah also has a law of 65' total length, so pulling the jeep on a trailer would most likely put you over that. You can supposedly get a permit for more length if you pay the state money. Do a search on here for double towing or something like that and you will find old threads on it. Personally, I would only double tow stuff that long and that heavy with a 5th wheel trailer.

FWIW I pulled an 11' camper and my jeep on a flatbed behind my '99 powerstroker when I had it. It was only a single rear wheel F-350. It did wonderful in the power department, and the 6.6 dmax will only have more power.

If it is a large camper you'll want to invest in a set of Firestone Ride-Rite air springs for the rear($250 or so) and a set of Rancho 9000's for the rear. I had the bags and rancho's all the way around and it made it good, but I didn't use the adjustability for the front shocks since the weight never really changed(actually dropped a few hundred pounds from the front axle with the camper on)

are you talking about triple towing, or a camper in the bed towing a flatbed trailer w/ a jeep on it?

I wouldn't triple tow that kind of load. I've witnessed an attempt at it before...

I am sporting a new CAMPER this year, since I can't pull the 32" trailer and a Buggy. Wishing I had that long bed truck still..... The camper is large and HEAVY and requires the use of AIR BAGS. Yes I mean it requires them. I also put together a hitch extention of 24"s, and with the equalizer on there it is not too bad, but I think I am going for the "peace of mind" purchace and going to get the Troklift system that uses a double receiver and two tubes for extra strength. I just can't risk loosing the trailer and buggy trying to save a few (hundred) bucks.
As for the truck, it will pull whatever you put behind it. Great engine, great brakes, great ride, the D-max will get the job done.

Solid as a rock is what I need! It's amazing what a little slop can do 3' out, it becomes 4"s of slop up, down, and side to side. I just hate to shell out 800 bones for something that will only get used when the Campers in the bed of the truck!

If any of you camper guys are interested, I had a Titan class V 2.5" receiver on my truck when I had my slide in camper. The receiver went with the truck, but I still have the 2.5" extension that is 48" long that accepts a standard ball mount hitch on the other end. I used it for towing everything I owned behind my 11' slide in.

PM me if your interested in it and make me an offer
