not really a joke, but this happened to one of my students. I was not the teacher, but luckily it happened before he came to my class.
A student of mine came up to me after class in his stocking feet, and asked if he could use my phone to call his parents to bring him another pair of shoes. I asked him why he needed another pair of shoes. He explained that he washed his regular pair of shoes last night and they were still wet this morning, so he grabbed a pair of shoes out of his closet that he had not worn for over six months. He then let me know that he thought there was a dead mouse in his shoe. I was curious why he thought that so I went to look at his shoe while he was calling his home. Coming up through the laces near the foot area I saw what looked like a moldy red grape. As I looked closer it was more like red leather with fuzzy gray mold on it. The boy saw me looking and told me not to look in the shoe or I would be grossed out. My curiosity got the best of me and inside the shoe on the left was a mouse-tail! I could not believe what I was seeing let alone holding it in my hand. The mouse must have tried to get out of the shoe through the laces, got trapped, and was literally decomposing in the boy’s shoe. I was so grossed out and told him we are taking this to the office. As we walked to the office he mentioned that his room did have a terrible smell in it. I replied to him, "usually I tell students these things happen, but Chad this does not happen!" I also could not believe he did not notice the mouse until around 11:30 in my class. He said that he just felt something rubbing on his foot (at least he was wearing socks), and when he took the shoe off he discovered the mouse. As I took him and his shoe with the decomposing mouse to the office the poor secretary literally got up out of her seat, backed up with a look of horror on her face, and requested to get it away from her. We got it in a plastic bag, the secretary sprayed it with Lysol because of the smell, and eventually the custodian was called in to throw it away. The poor boy finally got a hold of his mom trying to explain to her that he absolutely needed a new pair of shoes because his old ones were gone. Needless to say I have shared the story with other teachers and they agree that this is one story that is one of a kind.
awesome.
