After using cheap notchers and stepping up to a JD2 notchmaster, I'd say there's just no way I'd go back to anything else. It's a damn good notcher, but it's not really in the cheap bracket.

i have had the harbor freight notcher for several months it works as good as anything else, getting good hole saw bits helps alot. I have used the crap out of mine and have had no problems and it only cost 30 bucks so you cant beat that

The problem with the Harbor Frieght one is that it never knotches strait. Invest in a JD and youll never have to purchase another.

The only way you can think that it works as good as anything else is because you have obviously never used a anything else... There is no comparison between the HF'er and a nice notcher - There is a dang good reason it only cost $30.

If you want a HF one, I got a brand new one in my garage you can have for free. It's still in the original box, never been opened :p Located in the Riverton/Herriman area.

wrong, i have used other ones, but i agree the HF one will wear out faster than others but, its the same design as all the JD2 one even though it is higher quality, but its hard to justify spending $215 plus shipping when your starting out. Thats 7 HF notchers so it all depends on how much you want to use it. I plan on a a protools one when the HF one gives me problems but it is still working great so far:-\

What other ones have you used? Harbor freight notchers in no way compare to a jd2 notcher. Why waste the money on 7 HF notchers when you could buy 1 good one?

Welcome to the 4 wheel drive world. I spend at least $200 in fuel and food evertime I go out if not more. There not the same at all. The quality of your tools helps the quality of your work. Keep that in mind when buying tools!

thanks for the lesson on how much life cost i had no idea, i wasnt saying the JD2 one is not a good notcher but simply that when your starting out and are not planning on useing the crap out of a tool its not always worth spending alot when you can make due with a lesser one, please put your pitch forks and torches down :D And yes casey is right when you want the highest quality you need quality tools but sometimes you simply can't afford it at the time, thats why i got the HF one and i was surprised how well it worked. Like i said i plan on a nice pro tools 550 dollar one next when this one wheres out

the notcher by JD2 i was refering to is this one

looks similar no?
