I'm cheap too, that's why I have to build all of my own crap.

Especially when you start wasting tube! Not only are you angry and pissed! Now you've just wasted more money!! Lol! Definitely worth it to drop a little more coin on your tools! Always pays off in the end!
Similar design, yes. That's the end of it.
The HF version uses thin/flexible steel for the main frame, a smaller rotating shaft which rotates in bushings, and a pretty weak tube clamp.
The JD or Pro Tools version is heavier/thicker/stiffer, uses a larger shaft, needle bearings, and a heavier-duty clamp
All that means is it's smoother to use, more accurate, and will make your hole saws last longer due to less flex and chatter.

Don't forget you can't do offset notches on the hf one either.
And Just wait till you screw up 8ft of $4/ft tubing, twice, with a bad notch. A good notcher will look pretty good then... not that anyone I know, that has my same name, has ever done that before
