Yup, that notcher works great. The Pro-Tools equivalent works equally well. There are others out there, but those two are the ones I've used.

You should probably get the JD one, just for the similarity to your initials. :D

Carl,
have you had any troubles with your little threaded adapter that threads onto the shaft of the notcher and then threads into the bit? I've switched hole saw bits maybe only 7 times and that adapter is already stripped out. I called JD and they want like $8 + shipping for it. I thought maybe somewhere in town might have one but I don't know where.

Thanks,
Scott

I have a Pro-Tools notcher now, so it doesn't have threaded adapters--it has both sizes of threads machined right onto the shaft. I have stripped a couple though, it seems like some of the holesaws have more play in the threads than others--even when new.

One thing we've started doing to make them last longer, is to stack a washer or two under the holesaw before threading it on. That spaces it away from the "bottom" of the threads enough that it's stronger. The threads end a small distance from the bottom, so if the saw is seated all the way down it's only on 1/2 the threads....that make sense?

Scott, I had the same prob, and found the adapter at Home Depot. The reason that they strip is the theads end too soon, so when the hole saw threads on, it goes past the end of the threads. The ones a Home Depot come with a washer to prevent this.

BTW John, I have the TN-100, and it works awesome.

Carl, that makes a lot of sense, thanks a lot.

Corey, what department at home depot did you find this piece?

Thanks guys,
Scott

P.S. other than that, this notcher is awesome!! I can't believe how much time it cuts off doing tube work, it is way worth it.

Go to the tool area, where they sell hole saws. They adapter comes with an arbor that they make for saws smaller than 1 inch. You may have to buy the set, but I've also seen just the adapters in the same place.
