u-bolt eliminator opinions wanted.

i am curious to know if any body is running a setup like this.

are there any advantages to running this setup?

i kind of like the idea of being able to move the axle back a little, with out having to move the springs.

i am thinking about making something like this, but i like how this kit comes ready to weld on, with the shock relocation brackets. no fabricating and refabricating to make it fit right.

opinions, please.

Just make sure you don't half-ass the welds. With U-bolts the welding quality on the perches is not critical, since the u-bolts bolt the spring directly to the axle. With this kit you're only botling the springs to the perch, so the weld is under a lot more stress. If you weld those on, and they remove themselves, I will laugh out loud.

Just glanced at that kit again whilst closing the unecessarily open browser. I sure wish the u-bolt plate was bent up at the ends like a traditional u-bolt plate. Without the bends at either end the plate is likely to bend over the spring when you tighten it down, or after miles of use (abuse). Then it'll loosen up and all hell will break loose. Well, maybe not all of it. Sure will be inconvenient though. :-\

i hadnt thought of that. i think i would laugh too, in a quiet sobbing sort of way.

it looks to me like there is plenty of surface to weld to the tube. i think i would have somebody else weld them for me, somebody who knows what they are doing.

I agree with RockMonkey. I dont like the idea of all the stress being placed on those welds. Not that I dont trust my welding, but...

I've seen something much like this but it was more like a plate with threaded bungs welded to it which was welded to the axle. the spring had a spring plate that went on top and bolted down throug. I'll have to check and see what I can figure out.

I would think that if you don't trust all the weight on those welds grab some 1/4 plate and take it around the bottom of the tube welded all the way around.
