U joint ?

I've been contemplating drive lines and am torn on u joint size. I got the Atlas with 1410 yokes, but the axles have 1350 yokes. I'd like to have them all the same size. My front driveline will be a 2 piece so that will add up. There's a thread on Pirates about 1350s being fine for most buggy applications.

What do y'all think? Should I go 1350s or 1410s? BTW, the front driveline is a tight fit, so the driveline size is a factor.

1350's. 1410's are probably overkill on a lightish buggy.

1350 and 1410 are the same trunion/cap size, it is just the size of the cross that is bigger. Thus 1410 gives you more angle before binding, but not a great deal more strength. I run 1410 at the tcase and 1350 at the axle , just so I don't hit them as much. If the rear was HP I would run a 1410 there too.

I run 1410 at the t case and 1350 on the axles, yes I carry spares of each but I liked the extra angle at the tcase and less mass to hit on the axle. if that makes any sense...

I'm running 1310s on the front and a 1310 at the tcase on the rear. I 'think' the 14 bolt is a 1350.


(but then again, I broke a strap on Pritchett the other day)

It's not compensating it's overkill. I would rather not break when the money is not really too different. The rear is no problem, but the front on my 2 piece will be tight, we will see.

JUST KIDDING. There is nothing wrong with overkill. It's just not necessary.

Just to be backward from the above guys, my last buggy had a 1350 CV at the rear output, and 1410 at the diff. (I needed the angle) I never broke either one.

The front didn't need the angle capability, so I just had single 1350 at both ends on that one.

That's another way I could go because both of the drivelines from the donor rig have 1350 CVs in them. If I ran one in the back I could point the pinion up a bit more and get more driveline clearance.

I would swap to Toyota flanges and run toyota joints if it was me

if your not worried about binding, overkill is good peace of mind.
Ive never broken a joint, but I have pinched plenty of yokes & cv's.
