U4WDA Richfield--Aug, 1 2009

I got a chance to hit the U4 event for a day. There were a couple of obstacles on the Crazy 8 trail that I owed. Great trail. Great people, and great grub afterwards.

I got chauffeured. Definitely the way to go (esp. on the way home after I'd knocked my head pretty good). I think it's an '08. It's one of the two folks I know with a 6.4L. This one has less than 40K, and has been back to the dealer at LEAST 7 times, once for a new motor. It PULLS hard, but doesn't seem worth it to me (the other guy I know has a new engine as well with about 45K on his?). My 7.3L would def. get outpulled by the newer truck, but CPS are only $20 and take less than 10 min. to change. Seems to be all that's wrong with my truck? I'm not sure what I'd buy re: a new truck. I'm not convinced that exhaust regen thing is worth a damn. (I'm kinda looking for a crew F450 7.3L but not really)

My photographer only got one shot of your rig. It's not even in focus very well? He got NONE of Stumph, Dennis, or the BHR crew. I'll have to bring along a different photographer next time?

Nice trip report, I need to get down there sometime. How did the MTRs do?

Surprisingly well. I didn't dare air them down below about 10 psi (no beadlocks) but they didn't seem to need much more if any air down. They didn't grab like I'm used to the Creepy Crawlers, but realistically, they did pretty well. The nice bonus with them is that they do run down the road pretty well. I had the sidewalls in some fairly sketchy situations and they seem to have come out unscathed. So far, so good. The H2 wheels are a little worse for wear, though.

I never get a photographer to go. when I have a passenger I hope to scare them enough at some point to get them out of my Jeep to take photos. It hasn't worked yet. They always want to stay in the Jeep. I guess I have to get a little crazier.

Thanks for posting pics of the rigs. (our jeep is the black and white one with the moab rocks sticker on the tail gate). , that was a fun day, we had never ran a trail in richfield..... im sure we will be going back sometime to try another trail, crazy 8 was a fun little trail.
