Here is our U4WDA schedule:
U4WDA Winter Convention
February 3, 2007
The U4WDA winter trail ride will be hosted by Moab Friends-For-Wheelin’ in Moab, Utah. The event will be based at Area BFE.
The meeting place will be the same as last year, at the old Sportsman’s Lounge parking lot on Highway 191 just south of Moab. We will have a “U4WDA” sign beside the highway. Meeting time is 8:30 AM, with departure at 9:00. While we expect the weather to be good, a lot of snow could force some last-minute changes to our trail schedule.
Trails:
Easy – “Behind the Rocks Arch Trail”. This trail will take an easy and scenic route through the Behind the Rocks area, and will visit a number of spectacular arches. Some short hikes may be offered, depending on the weather conditions and time. Balcony Arch, Picture Frame Arch, Pritchett Arch, Halls Bridge, Wigwam Arch, and others are possible destinations, as well as possible overlooks into Kane Creek Canyon. The trail is mostly easy (2 ½ to 3), but a few small ledges and new washouts could make it a bit tougher, especially if there is snow. The trail will be led by Ber Knight and Jerry Hansen.
Moderate – “SteelBender”. Rated about 3 ½, SteelBender has some fun terrain and great scenery, as well as several interesting obstacles. Expect some frozen creek crossings! Led by Holly and Kevin Jensen.
Hard – “Pritchett Canyon”. Spectacular scenery and numerous tough obstacles make Pritchett a favorite. Front and rear lockers are requested, and due to the length and difficulty of the trail, we are limiting it to about 12 rigs. Expect a long day. Led by Jim Molter and Susan Stevens.
Hardest - “Area BFE”. We are planning on running Helldorado, but we can really do whatever the group wants. All the BFE trails are short in length, so if the “carnage gods” are good to us, we may be able to run several trails. We expect well set-up rigs with 2 lockers and a winch. Be prepared for body damage or broken parts. Led by Jeff Stevens.
Starting about 3:00 PM, we will be hosting a great chili and hot dog cookout at Area BFE, with a big bonfire to keep everyone warm. We will keep cooking into the evening, or until all the food is gone! All of the trail runs will finish just a short distance from BFE, so everyone should be able to make it. The dinner is free, but a tip jar will be set out for those who would like to help cover the cost of the food. Also, a small contribution to the Area BFE Donation Box would be great… let’s show Jeremy and the other owners of BFE how much we all appreciate their efforts!
