Unofficial RME Police...wtf

Tacoma absolutely hit the nail on the head this time. There is never any reason to disrespect someone. I also feel that post bashing isn't appropriate either and Lifelong Jeeper, I'm sorry that happened. What I see as a bit of the problem is that we are, for the most part, all rock crawlers on here. Now that means that we are all pretty much cheap bastid's looking for the screamin' deal because that's how we've been able to build our junk. Please note, that I mean that in the nicest sense as I'm one of those. :) Now, that doesn't make lowballing right by any means, I just think that may be why most people on here immediately resort to that behaviour. A respectfully submitted PM with any offers does sound like a much better way to be the cheap freak than in a public post though.

I would like to start a controversial post targeting everybody out there who feels it their right and/or responsibility to bash people's posts saying that they are asking too much money for something or that what they are trying to sell is a bunch of junk. I have seen a huge increase in this of late and fell victim to it twice yesterday alone. If you are one of these people who just cannot control themself, I would like to speak for everybody else and say but out and mind your own business. I'm thinking about copying some of the posts from yesterday in this one to prove my point.

Also, RME is getting to the point where you can't sell anything for what is worth just because some jack a$$ is too cheap to pay more than squaller for it and they quickly sway all of the remaining public toward their opinion.
I myself have low-balled someone but just because that was all I could afford but I always tried to do so in a respectful PM.

Does anybody else feel the same way?

Value is in the eye of the beholder....we've all heard that. Just because you see something that YOU may think is priced too high, doesn't mean that you have to publicly advertise your opinion that will dissuade others from buying. If you're not interested, move on. If something is truely over priced, lack of response may cause the seller to adjust the price, but lets leave that up to the seller. Low ball offers and comments should be PM'd.
Do others agree?

I fully agree with both you guys. We do have rules against people being 'the Price Police', but many times people don't pay attention to the rules. I do NOT like seeing opinions in for sale or wanted posts... if something is priced to high, it simply won't sell. No need to tell everyone that it's price high, the seller would figure that out eventually. Even if something is listed high, you never know when someone will know just what that item is worth & pay full asking price because of something they know. No need to limit the potential of other peoples ads.

The classifieds are one of RME's greatest draws, as well as one of its biggest downfalls. I have thought about locking each new thread so ONLY the first listing post shows. Nobody could comment, all offers would have to be done thru PM's, email or phone. I've had many people complain about the classifieds and the way we run them. Out of those complaints, nobody has offered to step-up with a solution to the problem. Interesting... just opinions... sound familiar? ;)

It seems that once someone becomes a registered member of a forum they now have free reign to broadcast their opinion on each & every matter. I had that happen recently on another forum... opinions, then opinions of the first opinion. Can't I just sell my stuff in peace?!

If you have a specific problem with a thread & would like to see un-needed comments deleted, PLEASE use the Report Post button. At that point all the Mods will see the issue & squash the problem before it gets any bigger.

My problem with the classifieds is I seem to sell stuff too cheap. I'm upping my price on everything from now on.

whining about it isn't going to change anyone... sorry to burst your bubble..

I appreciate the advise and am aware of the report post button.

So you know, I am not the type of person to just complain. My intent is to raise awareness or open dialogue that this type of behavior is unwanted and in all technicality against the rules. I'm attempting to create an RME cultural shift...if you will. If I were a mod on here I'm sure I would prefer not having to babysit the posters. I'm sure I would prefer being able to add my expert opinion or clarify mis-truths when necessary instead of having to delete inappropriate posts. Ergo enjoy my moderating experiences much more. We shouldn't have to lock the posts down because of the irresponsible few. Though, if necessary, it's not a bad idea. (You can kind of parallel this issue to that of trail closures too. The irresponsible few ruining it for the rest of us.)

And for the record, I don't have a problem with people getting a deal on an item or product. If the buyer and seller come to an agreement then that is commerce and it's great to see. What I have a problem with is someone posting a product and then somebody who doesn't have the slightest interest in purchasing it getting on there and lowballing it (rediculously) or bashing the listed price saying that you can get it cheaper on ebay or something similar.

Thank you everyone for your input. Hopefully this mentality will spread and everyone can always enjoy RME.

I wouldn't say he is whining about anything, but rather bringing the attention of a problem to the forefront.

I didn't even see the problem posts until he mentioned them. Now they have been taken care of.

Paying more than someone's absolute bottom line for something on RME is stupid. It is just like an auction...you set your idea of how low you will go and then don't go past it.

If you don't like lowballers then GET LOST!!

I always low ball and will continue to low ball because it has saved me THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. If I can twist someone's arm and get it cheap I will twist away. If you are too weak to pick a price and stick to it then you deserve what you get!

Buying goods and services private party to private party is a predator prey type of scenario and it can go either way! Stop whining!

Wow, apparently you don't completely read posts. We've already established this and I'm not going to retype it.

I kind of feel like I should grunt and beat my chest after reading your post. I feel so primeval.

I don't care about people low-balling me. IF they are trying to save some money. I understand that I want to save money as well. Sometimes I have wondered if so and so selling such and such is crazy. It isn't my such and such though sell it for what you want. It does bug me if they don't have any intention of buying and are just are trying to raise their post count.

that said I have a bone stock dana 44 for 1000 dollars if cody or anyone wants it.

Man I have something on here for sale and I have not even gotten a lowball figure and I posted it for OBO. But I do understand what the thread is all about. I posted something else on another board and someone said it was a little high. So I tryied my best to explain to the other party what the letter OBO means.

It's only worth $11, I'll give you $9. What did I just buy?
