Congress recently approved a one year extension of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self Determination Act as part of Public Law 112-141.

Under Title II of the re-authorization, the public is invited to propose projects for improvements on the Fishlake National Forest. Project submissions are being requested for funding from federal fiscal year 2012. Project proposals must be submitted by August 17, 2012

The legislation encourages individuals, non-profit organizations, local governments and others to propose projects that restore watersheds, decommission or maintain roads, remove noxious weeds, thin tree stands, or otherwise improve the condition of the national forests. The proposed projects need not be implemented on Forest Service lands, but must benefit National Forest resources. All projects must have funding obligated by September 30, 2013.

Applications and instructions for Title II proposals can be found online at one of these locations

Mailed proposals must be postmarked by 5 p.m., August17, 2012.

These funds are made available by Beaver, Millard, Piute, Sevier and Wayne counties, which receive federal funds based on the percentage of land in federal ownership. Title II project proposals are reviewed by the 15 members of the public that comprise the Fishlake Resource Advisory Committee (RAC). The RAC then makes recommendations about the proposals to the Fishlake National Forest Supervisor.

The RAC will be making recommendations about which project proposals to fund during future meetings.
