Valve Stem Damage Prevention?

You want cheap? Try this, if I can explain it well enough. Cut two pieces of 1" pipe about 1 1/2" long. Now, with your trusty hack saw, or Port-A-Band if you're lucky, split those lengthwise into four "C" looking pieces (does that make sense?) Now, slowly, and carefully weld those to the wheel around the valve stem. Deflate the tire first, and just weld small sections so as not to damage the stem from the heat. Done it on dozens of demo derby cars, never had a problem yet.

I busted two valve stems on RS and I need to come up with some kind of way to prevent this from happening in the future. I assume I'm not the only one who's ran into this problem before, so how do you guys protect your valve stems?

These look like a good option, but I think I'd lose the filler adaptor and then I'd really be screwed:

Here's somebody elses solution:

Went with a set of these and ordered three extra filler tubes that I have stashed all over the Jeep so that I don't lose them.

After several years of using these valve stems, I have not had any problems with them and have amazingly not yet lost all of the extra filler tubes. Just thought I'd post an update/review to help if somebody's looking for another soution to the kind problems I had.
