Ok, I know I am a couple of days late and the pictures will be weak, BUT I had a great time and saw a BUNCH of old friends and made some new ones.
Vernal Rock Rally was AWESOME. Two day event, good Vendor show, trails from mild to wild, fun 4x4 games, & great location.
So we pulled into town on Thursday night and found the hotel, (which were CHEAP, I think I was $220 for the 3 nights).
Friday Morning, I was tail gunning on Red Mountain West Loop. They asked us to be at the park at 7:00 am to help with line up and registration, so that meant dropping my trail rigs off at the trail head a early, then driving to the other side of the mountain to drop the tow rig. Big Shout out to @bds for meeting me early and the ride back to town.
Friday was a super chill day, the permits were a little slow coming so there wasn't a lot of people signed up for the trail which made it awesome. 50%+ of the trail was our core group, @pkrfctr, @bds, along with our extended families. Sean was the trail leader and just a quality person, it was fun to wheel Jenson and his kids on the trail along with Justin and his wife.
We made steady progress hoping to golden spike with the East Loop guys at the cabin at noon. Where there were more people on the East loop, and tougher terrain, we weren't in a hurry. The trail is rated a 6 and that is about right. A little narrow in terms on trees and such but Beautiful. Perfect trail run, no breakage, minimal rocky mountain pin striping, cool people!
We made it out, took a group picture and it was back to town to get some pizza and lets the kids swim!
Saturday, we were signed up to run Doc's Beach as participants, but got a call that they had lost a couple of trail helpers to breakage and asked if we could help out. Ron was leading and he is an amazing guy, so no problem, we can jump in to help!
It was a much bigger trail in terms of rigs and the obstacles were definitely a step up. There was a lot of same people, plus a very cool group from Colorado with some unique old iron. CJ6, CJ8, plus some built LJs and CJ7s. (I told them about this site and I hoping they find it and ad some pics.)
The other trail leaders were locals and awesome people, Anthony and Ryan were just fun. Where they knew the area better they were taking turns helping people with breakage back to pavement.
Speaking of breakage, we had an early model bronco come as close as it gets to going over backward only to save it at the last milli-second, he had rub marks under his tail lights! We also had an XJ try to bounce up a rock only to bust a rear drive shaft and bend a tie rod. It seems like a JK broke a rear ring and pinion, the other scrambler broke a hub, and the CJ6 had some tranny issues.
Lots of fun ledges and waterfalls through out the trail. We ended the trail at the cave, which was pretty cool in itself. I have never driven inside rock before and hopefully we can get Tim to post the group pic.
Saturday ended with a Vendor show at the Park, it was good to see the Impulse Off road guys, the Agility Guys, & the Just 4 Fun Crew. I even spotted the elusive Maverick in the freakshow! He was running the Winch Race.
I also had the chance to go scrambler to scrambler in the slow crawl with him. I am still smiling with the Yota guy who showed up with 14" rims and doughnut spares on his rear axle to take the slowest crawler prize! I am hoping there is a pic of that.
Dinner in the shade of park, with kids playing on the playground, doing some drive line repairs in the parking lot, more night swimming at the pool followed up by Steak and Eggs at JBs on Sunday morning capped off a pretty cool Fathers day weekend.
Thanks to Ron, Brent, and our own Tim Saunders for putting this together!
