Never had any problems with mine.. But that's because I don't daily drive it.. which is the law. It's pretty obvious which vehicles are abusing the privilege..

I like the law A LOT for my type of vehicle that sees the street maybe two-three times a month or so? I'd hate to have someone abuse the privilege and get the thing repealed.

[h=3]About This Plate[/h] This plate identifies a vehicle at least 30 years old, is primarily a collector's item, and used for participation in club activities, exhibitions, tours, parades, occasional transportation and similar uses, but is not used for general daily transportation. This plate may be personalized with up to 5 alphanumeric characters by submitting Form TC-817 with the required personalization fee. A vintage vehicle, as defined in Utah Code 41-21-1, qualifies for an exemption from safety and emission inspections.

Requirements:

  • $15 Special Plate Fee
  • No Annual Contribution
  • Identifiable into one of two categories: 30 year vintage vehicles: 30-39 years old
40 year vintage vehicles: 40 years and older

From my understanding, the law is only enforceable under the "occassional transportation" clause by an officer that would give you a ticket for it.

I would say any vintage plat on I-15 on a weekday during the hours of 8am or 5pm is an obvious issue..
I see them quite often on vehicles that would have no real "vintage" value or appeal, but simply an older vehicle that wont pass in inspection anymore.

I agree. "Used for participation in club activities, exhibitions, tours, parades, occasional transportation and similar uses, but is not used for general daily transportation". GB will be 30 years old next year, and this registration will be perfect. Wheeling is absolutely a club activity as far as I'm concerned :), and I've wanted to pick up something else to use as a daily driver anyway. I'm looking forward to not having to worry about yearly emissions.

I have been seeing a lot more vintage plates lately also. A lot of them appear to be on very questionable vehicles that I see multiple times a week. We should start a vintage plate spotted thread

I am all in favor of this class of registration. I don't currently own a vehicle which could use it, though I'd like to. In other news, I have a co-worker who has this plate on his vehicle, and it's his daily driver take-me-anywhere-and-everywhere car... so, yes, he is definitely abusing it. I hope guys like him don't ruin it for the rest of us.

OK, i got pulled over this morning, i have been daily driving (about 5 miles aday) my 83 Toyota this summer and have a vintage plate, I was getting prepard to have my truck impounded and go to jail....
I am missing one mud flap, no rear bumper and did not have my plate properly mounted.

This was in South Jordan and The officer was accually very cool about it.
He said the truck is very cool but i need to TRY and address the issues that i already new about and sent me on my way.......

I should do this for one of my cars - '77 Celica (don't laugh, it's not your typical '77 Celica). I didn't realize occasional transportation was allowed, thought it was just car club functions, parades, car shows, etc.

I interpret it to mean that as long as you're driving recreationally and occasionally (not daily like some people who we won't name but their name starts with r and ends with ick), then you're ok.
